I’d say so. They will likely resign him cheap in the summer but I’m sure they want to give him a chance at a cup run and get some nice pieces back for the future

I agree. Not trying to sound bias although I’d love him on the leafs, I feel like trading him to a team that cannot resign him next year is the best, like the leafs. Then they can resign him in the off season

I think the ask starts with a 1st and Dubas might not want to do that.

I wonder though if the Leafs are thinking about Meier, why not inquire about Buchnevich? Knies+a 2023 1st would be the start, I would imagine. They should then see if they could possibly bring in Buchnevich+O'Reilly (75% retention). Maybe in a deal like that the ask on O'Reilly would be a future 1st (or two 2nds) and good prospect. If it's too expensive then maybe Buchnevich+Acciari or Bortuzzo. Making the money work would be a challenge.

It would be negligent asset management to not deal him. Wouldn’t mind re-signing him in the summer though.
