This years Paul Stastny move

Created by: njlaforte

Initial Creation Date: Feb. 11, 2023

Description
In the 17-18 season the Jets acquired Paul Stastny (for the first time). No one in the media was talking about him being available then out of nowhere he was a Jet. Who is that this year? Here are 10 (+1) players (some big names, some under the radar adds) I think are not being talked about that could be a surprise move.
Trades
1.
ANA
ANA has to give out some big money to Zegras, Drysdale and McTavish. So they might not be able to afford Terry long term.
    2.
    ANA
Feels like he could be a player that is dealt. Has improved a lot since being put on waivers a few seasons ago. Has a fair contract for how he is playing this year.
      3.
      OTT
This is a player I highly doubt gets moved... Even EF on 32T just know said the same thing. But if Cat won't resign in Ottawa then the Sens could look to move him.
        4.
        WSH
Has been scratched lately but still provides value. Hard nosed guy which is something the Jets are missing. Could probably be had for cheap.
          5.
          SJS
Another underrated player that I havent heard too much about. Solid 2-way player and has played 30 playoff games if they value that. Has had some great seasons with SJS but could use a change. Wouldn't imagine the price being too much.
            6.
            NSH
This is a player that I am very interested in. It would probably cost more then you would want for a 3rd liner... but Jeannot is the type of player you want for the playoffs.
              7.
              MTL
My #1 player. jk. Nobody wants this mammoth of a contract. If you value him so much then keep him.
                8.
                MIN
Needs a change of scenery. Solid contract for a 3rd liner. Maybe an Appleton+ swap?
                  9.
                  DET
Would be a solid 3rd liner that can play the PK. Wouldn't cost much.
                    10.
                    CBJ
He is hurt but I like this trade for any team looking to contend. He could be added at the end of the TDL and put on LTIR until the playoffs. Would be a conditional pick based on games played... ie: a conditional 6th-round pick that upgrades to a 4th if he plays x games.
                      11.
                      FLA
Would be a great top 6 add. Doubt FLA sells but you never know.

They can fit Terry easily. Drysdale is getting a bridge deal after missing the season and McTavish isn’t up for 2 more seasons.

I'm just saying that they have to shell out a lot of money over the next few years to Zegras, Drysdale, Mctavish, Bedard/2023 draft pick... So maybe they would rather save the 8-9M it will cost to sign Terry, and make sure they can afford to lock up their other core pieces... Because it will cost close to, or more than 10M per player.

I would not call Mantha hard nosed

I haven't watched him play for a while. He used to be a big power forward in DET. Has he turned into a more skilled guy because I wouldn't want another slow-skilled guy (Wheeler).

They can fit Terry easily. Drysdale is getting a bridge deal after missing the season and McTavish isn’t up for 2 more seasons.

I found the Henrique analysis hilarious!

One of the most consistent games in the NHL but he has improved a lot since being put on waivers🤣🤣🤣🤣

I will be chuckling about that one for a few days🤣

                        Please just stop! Lol

The Ducks are hardly above basement with Silverberg and the "much improved" Henrique coming off the books after next year.

Not only can they afford MacT, Zegras, Drysdale and Terry, they could probably fit a Mattews on their too🤣🤣🤣🤣

                        Brutal analysis. Brutal.

I've run several ACGMs with Terry and Zegras resigning. You're failing to account for the ~11 million coming off the books next year with Henrique and Silfverberg, Then Vatrano's deal comes off the year after that, then a year later Fowlers deal expires, and the year after that, Gibson's contract expires, and a year after that, Strome's deal is done. With the exception of Vatrano's deal not being that big, Anaheim has a big deal falling off every year. Maybe some of those guys are kept around, but they won't be getting raises from their current rates, probably discounts as they will be in their mid 30s (most of them) when their deals expire.

In the mean time the cap will jump, the 2 mil in dead cap from Perry buyout ends this year, as well as the dead cap from John Moore. There are no cap troubles in Anaheim so long as Verbeek doesn't start handing out massive deals.

Besides, the contract comparable for Zegras have been set. 7-7.5 million per. Terry was rumored to have been asking for 7 million range, even say its 7.5 for him.

Maybe Chevy should've claimed Henrique when he was on waivers.

It's really not happening man. We don't have another 1RW waiting in the wings ready to step in, anyone we go get in FA is either drastically more expensive or too old for our timeline, or both.

I mean, I suppose it could happen, but anything short of a 23 1st and a prospect like Holtz coming back the other way doesn't get it done.

They could sign Terry and Zegras to full terms and Drysdale to a bridge plus a 10M player next season and still make the cap work. They have plenty of cap space.

When he was put on waivers he was the best ducks forward. That team was just bad and he was the scapegoat. But I will say since then he’s got back to the career average or just above.

Terry: On the ducks untouchables with Zegras
Henrique: might be more realistic, if he considers waiving here
DeBrincat: You already have Kyle Connor scoring, what’s the point?
                        Mantha: Could be an option
Labanc: Barely a third line player what’s the point?
Jeannot: I’m confident he’s just going through the sophomore slump and will get back on track
Anderson: Why do people want him, he’s an a*s player who once every 2 billion years scraps out a random 30 goal season
Greenway: The wild aren’t gonna help their biggest rivals
Suter: As a Blackhawks fan who watched Suter and seeing how he hasn’t panned out in Detroit, I can confirm when giving playing time he’s a great player
Nyquist: He’s injured and won’t be back until the playoffs which the Jets still need to make to justify this move
Reinhart: Florida selling would be a horrible decision as they don’t have a first round pick
