Holding the bag

Created by: Andy_Dick
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 12, 2023
Published: Feb. 12, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
There is no excuse holding Bourgault, Schaefer and Broberg past the TDL.
You are in your window and you need to win for McDavid/Draisaitl possibly resigning. They are less likely to resign if you dont commit to winning now in their primes.
Nobody cares about these prospects if the Oilers win a cup in the next 3 years

I don't know about a massive overpayment lol but I've come round to the idea Broberg could be worth it, just more work in having to then trade Barrie. Barrie could bring in another smaller trade package though

I’d rather cut out the extra step. Broberg and a second. Edmonton still needs Barrie, anyway.

I'd agree to that , though Barrie could probably bring in more then just a 2nd on a one year 4.5mil aav

You’re dreaming. The Oilers were scouting him hard and walked away because he didn’t impress. He’s not worth more than a B prospect and mid round pick.

It doesnt matter what i give up, sometimes. Fans have their own bias. Canucks fans were refusing Justin Barron for Garland last week when they are trying to dump his salary now.

All these trades are massive overpayments as I said in the header. You can overpay in your window. You can't keep looking for the perfect 'fair' deal then you are just holding the bag waiting for tomorrow that never comes.

Not if they want to add. The whole idea of trading Barrie is for cap flexibility. He's still a positive asset but the Oilers should not be paying that much cap for what he brings, they dont have the luxury with their lack of cap space. Its the same idea as the Flames trading Monahan whereas the Habs can now extract value later on.
