Both Sandin and Minten? I think you keep Sandin since he is supremely better than Holl. Holl cannot be a top 4 guy in the playoffs. Also, $2M retained for 2 additional years on McCabe is highly unlikely. Chicago has to keep their retention options open (you can only retain a certain number of contracts I believe) for Kane and Teows because they will have to retain if they trade those guys. And they might resign next season only to be traded and retained again so Chicago won't be retaining on anyone other than those two.

Can retain on 3 players. Chicago is open to retain on McCabe but the price is steep.

Keep Sandin and add what? Even Minten AND Sandin AND a 1st will likely be not enough to get Meier with 50 percent retention.

Whats your source about Muzzin @bhuntlol? IMO it is very unlikely, that he will return. And you should clear your lineup: beside Shenaniganmuzzin money it is very confusing.

Be that as is may, McCabe just isn't that good. He's not better than anyone we already have. He's "the best defenceman" on a horrible team. That doesn't mean he's really good, he's less terrible

I'm not sure about him not being better than anyone in their current lineup but I do know the reason the Leafs wanted him is to bring a physical presence ar a cost controlled price (probably to replace Holl going forward on the PK as well). However, I don't see why the Leafs would make this trade if they think Muzzin could potentially comeback as suggested in this ACGM.

The thing is, he's going to be less physical in TO due to the system they play. He'll not have the opportunity due to the puck possession style they play.

I think they just really want someone to clear the net/make it difficult for players to crash the net on the rush. Samsonov is doing great making saves in the inner slot but if they can prevent more of those chances, then that could be a difference maker.

I don't think the type of physicality that they are looking for is hitting everything that moves like Luke Schenn.

Sure but I think if we grab a player like that it needs to be an upgrade and will cost Sandin. Chychrun at least could be coached into a good two way guy by Keefe but Schenn and McCabe are older, extremely slow (Schenn not McCabe) or just not better than what we have (both of them).

I would like Sandin to be on this team really but if they add Chychrun it only makes sense. I am concerned about Chychrun's health though and his fit in this team in the long-term. I think he'll be a 6.5m+ guy and easily higher than that if he does indeed unlock another level. His contract does expire when Tavares' does/the expected cap increase.

I got to admit though, I wouldn't be too upset if they got the 🦒 at a low cap hit instead just to keep Sandin. Without being sentimental though, if they can land Chychrun for Sandin+a 1st+Robertson, then I think that's something they should consider but that would be the most.

I think that's an overpay, Sandin is still super young and has a lot of upside. He is physical, and has so much potential. I think Sandin for Chychrun is closer than anyone wants to admit.

I do think that's an overpay, but in the end, whoever lands Chychrun might have to overpay. I've seen some people speculate on twitter, and I wonder if they are right, that Bill Armstrong just held out Chychrun to up the urgency to get a trade done today or by Monday.

I do think though in terms of personnel it should be Sandin and Robertson going out. If Sandin+ a 1st + a 3rd then so be it. If they can do Sandin+Robertson+ mid picks or a future 1st then that would be even better.

Sandin and Robertson, I would be fine with losing in that trade but I am not sure I would do it if it was me. I am not the biggest fan of Chychrun

Neither am I, but I do think it's kind of pointless to just add Chychrun without removing someone who is signed for next year. Could tamper with things and try moving the most reliable D-man in Brodie next year, after seeing how Chychrun fits, or move Sandin after. The issue I do have with that is the prospects that they would have to give up could be useful in 2-4 years. I also doubt they would want Robertson, and he might still have a fit in this team but I think it's better for him if he's traded.
