lol 3 "2nds" and a late 1st don't even come close to a top 4 dman per cap hit and top 6 in the league [really the only dmen better are Makar, Fox, Mac]

Chych > Dobson, Ekblad, EK, Chabat, Seider, Toews, Reilly

it's not even close

This a fair trade to both teams, I do think Boston can beat this, but I think this is close to the Kings best offer.

I still think we need more of a defensive defenseman, but I trust the team knows what they are doing.

You forgot to mention Hedman, Josi, Slavin, Sergachev, and Hughes in the list of guys you rate Chychrun over.

I think Chychrun can be really good, and in the right system and good team he'll look great, but I think you are vastly overrating him. He's not a #1, maybe could be a 2 but he's probably just a really good #3.

lool under what exact metrics do you make that analysis?

and wow telll me you've never watched Hedman and Serg play outside of some highlight without telling me

of those, Josi is the only other comparable but the others are not better dmen this year or next

Slavin is the best "defensive" dman which is worth far less than someone like Hughes who only moves the puck and doesn't take it away

Wasn't using any metrics, but I see now that I misread your comment (you said "per cap hit"). Although, you did also say he's top 6 in the league but guess you're talking about metrics as well.

That being said, you are trying to say that this offer ("a late 1st + 3 2nds [in value]") isn't enough. It seems to me that you think because he's an analytical darling that his value is going to be that of a #1 defender. Correct me if I'm wrong. If that's the case, then expect Chychrun to be traded at a "discounted" price. He might fetch more than this but I'm curious as to what you are expecting as a return. He's probably not going to a bottom feeder so chances are he's getting traded for a late pick+.

As for Hedman and Sergachev, I only watch them in the playoffs. Don't watch any highlights anymore.

For sure, according to Kypreos it might be centered around Clarke

Wow. Figured it would have been Turcotte and one of the other RDs. Well done Yotes if that is accurate.

Yeah, lol. I wonder if Vejmelka and Petersen are part of the deal.

The price on Meier will probably not budge/increase if this does happen. There's the QO, thing but I think SJ just resigns him and deal him in a sign & trade in the off-season if it doesn't happen this year.

For Meier, trading him after season and before (or at) draft may be their best option. I think a post-draft summer trade makes a lot of sense for Meier, but would be mistake by Grier. Meier can talk to all 32 teams after draft and once he signs the QO, he cannot extend until January. If they want more time, the team could elect arbitration in mid June (this nullifying the QO)…but it would only buy a few weeks and they’d lose their chance at 2023 pick.

The only reason Meier would agree to the sign and trade would be to get the 8th year. If he is dealt before deadline, he can get the 8th year anywhere.

Obviously whatever Meier wants appears to be limiting the return for San Jose , which is probably why they are rolling back their decision to give permission to teams to talk to his agent. He either has a team in mind, which will scare off other teams (de facto NTC) or wants a big AAV number.

If San Jose wants to preserve the market by selling him without granting permissisions…probably has to be between now and Mar 3rd. Or between Jan 1, 2024 and 2024 deadline.

Yeah, they will have to qualify him, and hope that he doesn't sign it lol, file for arbitration, and try to sign him/ get a sign and trade done. I think Meier is open to resigning in SJ but it's going to cost them more, so it will be more difficult to trade him if he's getting paid 9m or close to that vs if he's getting paid 8-8.5m. So, he might agree to work with Grier to find him a sign-and-trade situation.

Team elected arbitration window occurs before the qualifying offer. The player-elected arbitration window is after.

So they would have to ask for arb between end of season and the draft and would be selling him at draft as someone headed for arbitration (then acquiring team would have to sign him knowing he has all the leverage).

It’s a messy situation.

Sounds worse than just waiting to see if anyone wants him at before/after the draft up and signing him themselves before they have to qualify (which I think is a day or two before FA opens). The main thing would have to be that Meier is on board with whatever Grier wants to do.
