Gavrinkov is not the type of D man the oilers players want, they want a D man who can actually move the puck out himself and not just bank it off the glass which is all gav does, he's so washed this year
gavrinkov also said he wouldn't sign an extension in canada so i doubt he even wants to come here

Jackets don't really have a need for wingers. They're potentially going to have 8 to consider for their top 6 winger spots and another 11 to consider for their bottom 6 for next year as it is.

When did he say he wouldn't sign an extension in Canada? Not arguing, just asking.

I think Eliot Friedman or jeff marek said that on the podcast a few days ago but i cant remember, I have seen numerus tweets about it from reliable sources tho, think it might have something to do with a visa or conditions

Guess that pretty much kills Edmonton and Toronto as potential trade options. Sigh, wish he would just re-sign in Columbus dammit.

at 35% retention (4 Million) Edmonton sends back Barrie and Puljujarvi and all is square.

Edmonton would still trade for him as a rental if they thought he was the guy.

Nah, try adding picks and prospects. Why does SJ want those guys in a rebuild? If they're keeping competitive pieces they would just keep EK.

The purpose of sending out Meier and EK is to scrap for a rebuild. Luckily EDM has assets to spare.

Puljujarvi sort of fits the bill because he's young, but Barrie doesn't. They'd be taking pieces back to help resolve cap.

If you are sending 7.5 million edmonton needs to send back 7.5 million. Jp is done after this season and Barrie one more. If you trade karlsson you have a place for him to play.

that's fine you will be sending those guys to make the cap work, but my point is they're not as much value to a rebuilding SJ. The higher retention is going to cost more prospects/picks. The return here is probably a stretch even for 18% retention unless Grier is trying to fire-sale after dishing Meier

I don't think there is a team that can take EK at 18% retention. If you look at what burns' retention was it was about 34% which is essentially a buyout that takes half as long but nets back picks. I think that will be the method for Karlsson as well.

That's the thing about percentages though considering burn's was much less contract amount. Burns was more moveable and requested a trade. It helped give EK his ice time too because they were redundant on the same team.
I think SJ will be asking for quite a lot for retaining more than 18%, probably more than teams are willing to give up, so I highly doubt EK gets moved and even more doubtful before TDL. It's a monster contract, but Grier will get crucified for handicapping SJ for 4 years with very little to show for it.

Wrong

Sharks cannot afford to lose the Karlsson trade twice. Grier needs to retain an little as possible and max the return or as much as possible.

If not possible, just keep him.

If Grier can replace karlsson for 4.5 million which he can on a team that doesnt care about winning then the trade makes sense as long as you can get a return. That leaves 3 million Surplus Salary.

I'd happily pass on getting a first for him if it meant he stays, but I wouldn't want to re-sign him for more than the Gudbranson deal.

OK playing with the trade machine I see what you mean that it would have to be higher than 18%. I think you're right they have to send Barrie+Yama/PJ to make it work
