Babysitting The Nucks

Created by: BeautifulIdiot
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2023
Published: Feb. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
We need to have leadership in this time of transition,
Severson - might get an extra year or a little more dough, but I think he is a low risk solution and a longer term fit for QH

Bjugstad can bring toughness and can slot in for Aman, Lockwood or whoever on the 3rd or 4th line and be a bit of a dentist for the other team.

Give Petey the C
Huggy the A
Miller can keep his
Take it away from OEL

Draft Best Centre available, then best Defender available, we need value picks, lets not go for wingers, we have more than enough.

Trades

Schenn trade is ambitious, but I dont think it is out of the relm of possiblilty for him to get a late 1st, more likely scenario is to get a 2nd.

Boeser (.76ppg) is worth a 6.361M (average value of his scoring group [.7-.8] and 20+ games) so at half retained he is worth at least a 1st and 2nd if not more, especially for 2 years of retention.

Myers is not a GM deal, it is an owner deal

Garland helps leafs flush out their top 9

We have no right to be competing this year, so there is no sense in buying OEL out yet, so lets just give it another year or 2 and then get him gone, it would be different if we were competing but we arent.

Grans for Rathbone is unrealistic. Rathbone's value is almost nothing.

Boeser isn’t worth that price right now. His value is near it’s lowest

Disagree, the only reason he isnt in the lineup right now is because he has 2 other small guys above him, one plays the right side, the other is quinn hughes. He has value around the league, he put up crazy stats for a rookie in the A last year, Grans would be a fair swap

I think he has 17 points in his last 18 games or something, so I dont think so, also hes at a .76 clip and like 2% below his usual shooting percentage and has been playing with 3rd liners

4.9m middling wingers( Garland) aren't worth a first ......or really anything. Too much bad cap for the Leafs to want long term For example Jarnkrok came as UFA at 2.1m

Yeah, and his atrocious defense makes those impressive numbers worth a lot less in the bigger picture.

its the following years when Toronto will need new contracts for Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Sandin, Liljegren that are the issue with Garland making 5 million

Yeah, I think that the Ducks would be much more desirable place for Myers to agree to with M NTC.

I disagree. LA has lots of RHD prospects but almost no LHD prospects. Rathbone should be NHL ready next season and LA could really use him.

Boston's pick will be in the 30-32 range, pretty close to a 2nd round pick. There is a lot of interest in Schenn from playoff teams, he has won the Cup twice, and someone will pay that.

Dont forget that playng with good players will up his value, and the cap is also going up, so you could flip him for more, or you could use him as a piece to build around. also I dont think that Liljegren and sandin will cost more than 7m combined

Would you do this trade for boeser? knowing that you are getting half retention on a 60 point scorer?

He played 8 games and averaged 9 minutes last cup run. Played a high of 15 minutes in a 8-0 game. Didn’t play in finals. He basically got a cup for opening bench door and eating popcorn.
      He’s a 7/8th D on a contender. Worth a 3rd. Maybe a second to Dubas

Maybe. I would offer 1st plus one of our excess defensive prospects (Walsh maybe or McCarthy). If we sent two picks, I’d want another later pick coming back (or McDonough).

He's played really well this year and leads the league in hits. There's a lot of teams interested in him right now. I could see Vancouver getting a late first for Schenn and maybe a 3rd or 4th.
