Pay no mind to the cap. Due to prorated cap, this deal fits under the cap ceiling for Dallas

Check the Trade Machine I made for real cap impact: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/679403

No we're giving you 50% retention on Klingberg ($3,500,000), not 40% (what happened to your math skills?), and that's that.

Lol I mean hey, if the Ducks want to retain 50% then I'm not going to argue tears of joy

If CHI has the retention slot to spare, I wouldn't mind that Domi trade.

I don't believe Chicago has any retention slots being used currently. Looks like there are a couple of buyouts on the books, but nobody's been retained yet. Of course that could all change pretty quickly over the next month

For sure. McCabe or Murphy could possibly be a more lucrative use of a retention slot than Domi would be. So it's sort of in a holding pattern until Kane and Toews make their decisions.

Of course! Yeah, I feel like Kane and/or Toews kind of have to be the first dominos to fall for Chicago this deadline. Whatever happens with those two really does help shape what Chicago can do with their other trade assets.

Just out of curiosity, what would your price be for McCabe or Murphy?

Retention or not, I think the ask would start with a 1st. But with them I think there might be more wiggle room, such as getting retention or whatever, as long as the return is on point. I have them both at about the same trade value. I think McCabe is better on paper, especially this season, but Murphy is a right handed defensemen which is usually a premium in the NHL. Personally, I think they are both worth a mid to late 1st and MAYBE a little more. But the market will dictate that. Without retention on either of them, if we got a pretty good prospect and an early-ish 2nd, I wouldn't complain. If you look at comps from recent years, that is actually pretty light too. But I'm skeptical on how this years trade market is gonna shake out. So, we'll see. CHI already has a pretty good stockpile of picks, so, honestly anything else is a bonus. But I also don't want to just "take whatever we can get". I want our young new GM to have a spine and be able to walk away when other GM's aren't negotiating in good faith.

Finally a good Stars AGM.

Not overspending (giving up great prospect for rentals who could be sh*t and/or leave in FA the next offseason. For an example: Bourque + for Kane) and not underspending (what Nill will realistically do, which will result in a harder job to win the cup). This falls in the middle of just right.
