Meier or bust

Created by: PeterK
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 16, 2023
Published: Feb. 16, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Resign Meier, Resign Kampf, Resign Samsonov. Fourth liners are cheap. Let Engvall go. The defence is honestly fine, lots of depth and see what there is in the offseason. Chychrun is too expensive, Meier is the right fit. Brodie's contract is up when Timmy Lil and Sandin need new deals. Leafs are doing fine. Maybe move Murray's contract in the offseason or buy him out.

When you get serious we'll talk. This offer is easily beaten. It's paltry at best.

How do you resign both Meier and Bunting?

Bunting takes league minimum to be the Leafs eyebrow manager?

Once again Buffalo, Carolina and New Jersey would clearly blow that offer away. You want Meier? it starts with Matthew Knies and then add accordingly.

Are you kidding me? This is a ridiculous overpay. I’m a bruins fan. I have no dog in this fight. Have you ever seen a deadline deal go for two firsts +++? No? With good reason.

As a bruins fan, i would be so happy if toronto did this. It’s really easy to just say, “re-sign everyone!” But in practice, you can’t just wave a magic wand and get more cap space. So as is, $18M in cap space next season. Expect the cap to go up $1M, so call it $19M. Meier comes in somewhere around $10M. Let’s be optimistic, call it $9. Bunting is probably $6Mish? What’s the very low end for samsonov? $3M?

4th liners are cheap, but they’re not free…and no - the D isn’t fine. Even worse without Holl who apparently you’re losing. Let’s say through some miracle the leafs pull it off.

Bye bye matthews! Let’s say somehow they pull off that miracle? See ya later Marner.

It just doesn’t work. THe leafs can’t add a big piece long term.

Have you seen the ask for Meier. It's an A prospect, a 1st and a young NHL player. I didn't say anything about multiple 1sts

You need to work on your reading comprehension before jumping to conclusions

You said this wasn’t serious. Two firsts is more than meier will get.

Holl is not good. Easily replaced. He may play ok most of the time but when he makes mistakes they are brutal and lead to goals. Bunting at $6M? Hahaha, no, he may be putting up points but he is better suited to a 2nd or ideally 3rd line role. If he wants anything north of $4M, I'd let him walk without even a moment's thought. Samsonov is worth keeping but goalies are voodoo, I'm sure there will be some options out there if he wants more than a $3-3.5M deal.

Bye bye matthews! Let’s say somehow they pull off that miracle? See ya later Marner.

Knies was a 2nd round pick. He is getting a lot of hype but that has happened before and players don't pan out. From what I have seen of him play, I don't get the hype. I think Robertson is the better player for the next few years but Knies is likely a lock to be at the very least, a serviceable NHLer, and at best a solid top 6 option.
