Not really. I think Dubas put it best in his presser. Would you rather keep the for sure thing you know in terms of potential with your own prospects or use the mystery box.

1st round picks are determined by the board and by the time your pick comes maybe the player you’ve projected and wanted is no longer there.

Much rather give up a 1st rounder than Knies, Niemela, Robertson, Hiroven and etc.

maybe, but at the end of the day if not now when do you go all in? I'm much happier having ROR than Nick Bjugstadt, I'll tell you that much. AND we still keep all of our best young players/prospects.

You didn't send Acciari back.

If Bjugstad is worth a 2nd then so is Acciari, which means it was a 1st+3rd+Abramov for O'Reilly which is inline with the Tarasenko trade considering there is no trade protection on O'Reilly. The ask on Kane was probably higher too and other players. Dubas got some prospect and retention for a 4th.

Everyone overpays for TDL acquistions at the end of the day if you mean O'Reilly isn't worth a 1st+3rd+Abramov.

yup, people seem to be thinking of acciari as a freebie in this deal. He accounts for at least the 3rd round pick. Plus, cup champ conn smythe selke ROR at 75% retained doesn't hurt either...

You dont seem to get it

Against Tampa Nick Bjugstand does not move the needle

ROR and Acciari do

And Leafs have the cap to extend next year

Why though? A first round pick is more valuable than all those prospects.

Bjugstad has more goals and points than o'reilly while still being good defensively. I'd much rather keep our 1st and get him

The 1st round pick would most likely be our best prospect once drafted

Not really again we don’t know what we are getting with our 1st round pick and how those players are gonna develop. It’s why 5 years down the line when they do redrafts for fun everyone asks how did this player go so low or what did that specific GM saw in him.

Robertson, Niemela, Knies, Minten, Hiroven, and etc. will all make an impact quicker than whoever they decide to draft at 25-32.

Our prospect pool is very weak. I don't think any team would pay a 1st round pick for any of those prospects

ROR had an injury and Blues are not great this year. Bjugstand's having a productive year but look at his avg this is an outlier.

He would not move the needle in a playoff series vs. Tampa vs. O'Rielly and Acciari

I think the Leafs paid a fair price considering the cap environment, the double retention, and the fact that they got 2 centers in one deal.

Paul stastny alone delivered a 1st, a 4th, and an NCAA prospect (who unfortunately had concussion issues as time passed, and did not become an nhl skater).

Ryan Orielly is younger than Stastny was, is better, and then there’s Accairi too.

I would have said overpay had the Leafs given up one of their prized prospects. I’m kind of surprised the deal went through with no substantial value in the prospect side of the trade.

I feel the blues were getting more than a 1st for O’Rielly no matter who was the trading partner. He is an ideal rental.

It’s not weak. It’s middle of the pack on reason being it’s a lot of players that’ll be middle 6F or 3-6 dman. If we had one legit top line player, top pairing dman or potentially elite goalie (A+ prospect, think players like Byfield, Clarke, Stankoven and etc.) it would be in the top 10.

Knies is A prospect which is a top 6F but everyone else is B grades. Depending on whoever is grading the prospect Robertson and Niemela are A- prospects

It's definitely not an outlier are you sure you looked at his stats? ROR doesn't move the needle either and it cost a 1st round pick.

We don't have any A prospects. We overvalue our prospects way too much

Lmao Knies is an A prospect. If you tell me you have a prospect that’s ceiling is the current Zack Hyman isn’t a prospect you’re tripping.

If you’re hung up about a 1st rounder but complain how we are not deep enough then idek what to say

Yeah - but you also have a young auston matthews, Mitch Marner, etc.

I do like that Dubas took his shot and I admire both Armstrong and Dubas for getting infront of the trade deadline and standing tall with such a big deal.

Just as a stl fan I’m happy for what your team comp is about to be. You will be unstoppable.

But I see what you’re saying.

As a blues fan I watch tage thompson rip up the league but I’m happy with my cup win a few years back. Totally worth it.

I'd rather get a guy who's just as good as ROR but for much less. Knies is 20 and barely a ppg playing with a superstar. He's a B prospect

The blues lost to the kings, the blackhawks in the first round 2013-2015. 4 years later that core won the cup. The blues also lost in the first round to the sharks back in the day when they won the presidents trophy.

All of that, none of those teams were as good as Torontos roster today.

Y’all gonna get over the hump.

The blues “curse” stood 48 years. Ryan O’Rielly is the curse breaker.
