NYR got motte for a 4th last year. Same player smaller return since Gauthier is an AHLer.

A general rule of thumb is that a player's trade value disappears for the season when he is placed on waivers and nobody claims him.

Julien Gauthier is one example.

The Rangers paid a 4th round pick for Motte last year.

At best, the Rangers are now paying a 6th round pick for Motte this year.

This is not a fair deal for Ottawa.

The New York Rangers win the trade.

Neither player is very good. Whatever

Motte is a great player to have in your dressing room.

Ottawa wins this deal, only because the Rangers should have signed him last summer and they shouldn't have had to give up more to get him back.

Like this trade for both teams. Motte looked great early in the season, but has been invisible for the past 30 or so games. He has played great before and hopefully can regain that confidence from earlier this season. Gauthier is okay nothing special will play bottom 6 and adds some size for Ottawa and most likely a 6th with it. Fair deal for both I would say.

More likely a 7th

Great trade news to follow up the "meh" trade of ROR to the Leafs for a full Draft Rd.

Finally getting excited for TDL day.

Idk have to see who the devils add at the deadline. They add Meier and you’re probably right. If not, will be close but I think shesterkin gets them that series win.

Look at this way. Qualifying offer to Blais. Fast Forward--- Trading Blais for Tarasenko. Now Rangers have Motte back.

Great deal for New York. Motte made a positive contribution to their playoff run last year, and they get him back for almost nothing. Not a bad deal for Ottawa too, because Motte is a pending UFA and it looks like they’re not going to make the playoffs this year, so anything they can get for him is a bonus. They can keep Gauthier if they like him, but there’s no risk with him because he’s on an expiring contract too, so if he doesn’t fit in, they can let him go by simply not giving him a qualifying offer.
