Karlsson Trade

Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 17, 2023
Published: Feb. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Benson, Tyler
  2. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Hawks need to get to the cap floor the next couple of years and I think $2,875,000 for 4.5 years is worth a first plus a project player
EDM
    Sharks:
    Tyson Barrie
    Jesse Pulujarvi
    Xavier Bourgault
    2023 First Round Pick (EDM)
    2025 Third Round Pick (EDM)
    Retain 25% ($2,875,000)

    Blackhawks:
    2024 First Round Pick (EDM)
    Tyler Benson
    Retain 25% ($2,875,000)

    Oilers:
    Erik Karlsson 50% ($5,750,000)
    Steven Lorentz ($1,050,000)
    2.
    CHI
    1. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
    2. 2023 3rd round pick (PHI)
    Additional Details:
Carolina went out to say that they are looking to trade their first round pick for a player with term. McCabe at 2 mil is a fantastic deal and a big upgrade that can help for another 2.5 years
    CAR
    1. McCabe, Jake ($2,000,000 retained)
    3.
    CHI
    1. Brossoit, Laurent
    2. Dean, Zach
    3. 2023 1st round pick (VGK)
    Additional Details:
I'm sure people think this is an overpay, but Vegas gets Kane for pretty much 3 million because of retention and the cap dump. Vegas said they're willing to trade their top prospects and they also like to have their annual blockbuster deal, so I believe this trade is reasonable
    VGK
    1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
    2. Katchouk, Boris
    3. 2024 5th round pick (CGY)

    1. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
    2. 2024 5th round pick (EDM)
    EDM
    1. Lafferty, Sam
    Additional Details:
Karlsson trade would get to complicated for this website so I am doing a different deal for lafferty
    5.

Carolina is not going to move a 1st for someone that would be their 3rd pairing D man... they need forwards with term. The blueline is the best in the NHL as it is.

Major disagree. de Haan has been absolutely fantastic. If it wasn't for Skjei having the best year of his career, I'd have made a case to have him in the top 4. de Haan has not put a foot wrong.

And this still doesn't address the fact that the Canes need forwards, not defensemen

The thing is that the hawks should be willing to retain any amount of salary. If edm is looking for 50% retained and the Sharks only want 18-20%, then the hawks should do at least 30%. the hawks would basically be buying a first round pick, which they should jump at.
