You aren’t getting Meier without a 1st unless it’s a mind blowing offer. This ain’t it

Would you rather have the 25th overall pick or Zetterlund and a 2nd? You're saying you'd rather have 25oa, and I think that's the wrong choice.

And why would Meier just pass on the $10M QO?

I agree $10 next yr and then he signs a big deal in 2024 when the cap goes up.

Ehhhh. Realistically they can get both. And would.

Sharks asking for two elite pieces and a 1st.
Yet, no one is offering that.
So we wait.

Job security. 8.5M/8yr is a whole lot better than 10M/1yr

I don't know. Carolina appears to have taken their best two pieces (Nikishin, Jarvis) off the table. Not much left to pick from.

Holtz + 1st would already be an eye-popping return.
Adding Zetterlund + 2nd....would be overkill.

Per 32TP (I think) the Devils will not make the trade without an extension in place

25th overall for sure. Zetterlund seems fine, hasn’t been a big point producer. I don’t think he’s moving the needle that much to take a 1st round pick away

It's not "taking it away". it's shifting it back 32 picks.

It's not like the alternative is a first AND second.

Waddell may very well already be working other options to Meier. I think that's the piece they would like to have, but they will weigh the value of other options with what they would have to spend. They seem to make a trade out of nowhere sometimes. Waiting for someone to make a move that no one saw coming.

I love how we went out of our way to post unbiased prospect rankings explaining why offers are what they are. We get NO response from the certain SJ fans who are just robots saying no at this point. But yet here we are and they magically re-appear!!

I think LeBrun and others have said they same.

I'd hope they would at least have a conversation with player/agent first.

Brutal.

Holtz
Muk
23 1st

Meier with an extension

That’s the value. Stop lowballing the sharks it’s embarrassing. And Boeser isn’t worth a first rounder

Would love to see one of the two from Sharks fans:

1) A list of their preferred prospects to get (ie, Holtz, Muk, Foote; Drury, Morrow, etc); or
2) A list of what they need/want. (ie, picks, puck-moving dmen, playmaking centers, etc). I have tried to look up as many Grier comments as possible, but its mostly just "help the team" type stuff.

According to whom?

Is there a comp you can point to? Or a story about it? Something?

The uninformed over-payments are more embarrassing, if you ask me.

This. What are the Canes offering that can beat an offer of Muk, Yegor, 1st+? Nikishin, Necas, and Jarvis are off the table, and Morrow being better than Muk is debatable. Just because the Devils aren't offering their best pieces, doesn't mean their offers aren't good.

I would also add...based on what their GM has said about building their base of prospects....they may be looking for quantity as well. Look at his trade of #11 pick as prime example.

Now, his scouts have been watching our guys on multiple continents...likely building a list. Wouldn't be surprised to see another lesser-known piece or two involved.

(probably less interesting for ACGM however)

1) his camp says extension starts at 9m
2) he may want to play in NJ more than SJ, taking more of a discount deal because they are competitive and he's friends with Hischier
3) players are willing to take long term contracts for slightly less than they would get from short term contracts. 7 or 8 years at 8.5-9m versus 1 at 10m when you could blow your leg out and or dramatically destroy your value after a season at 10m then nobody wants to pay you close to that value after that

1) Think folks like glarson already made sharks ACGMs giving examples of timo trades from other teams. SJ fans are a bit all over the place with value just like NJ fans are too (I've read a lot of posts with you guys infighting)
2) When you suck you need everything, really... who knows what Grier actually wants but fans seem to agree SJ really needs D, especially RD, and a scoring forward prospect, specifically RW. Hence so much Holtz + Muk focus. It's true SJ's goaltending prospects are thin so there is probably merit in Grier wanting a goalie
