I don't understand the function of the salary retention on Kerfoot. The Blackhawks would see absolutely no benefit in getting less draft capital in exchange for a smaller salary. I think they'd prefer to opt for a 4th round pick instead of a 5th and take on all the salary.

Friedman said the ask for Korpi was a 2nd and 4th last year and that was when he was not that great. Now he's playing really well so Jarmo is probably gonna push for a decent return again.
