You're overvaluing the extension price and undervaluing the return for him

Look at the Fiala trade. This is more value than he got. The value is fine, even if Meier extends. Sharks fans thinking they're gonna get a Jack Eichel return are out of their minds.

Still good with the 1st/Holtz/Casey or Mukh proposal?

This ^

It will be similar to Fiala

+ a little for the extra couple of months
- a little for the higher AAV

Meier will return more than Fiala because the situations were very different

Holtz>Faber
but LA's 19thOA>NJD's 1st

MIN cap situation = Meier's QO
Faber + 2022 19th pick = Mukahamadullin + 2023 25th pick

(roughly)

disagree, SJ can/wants to resign Meier. MN couldn't resign Fiala. Their hand was forced to make trades

And look at the production of Eichel in the last two years when compared to Meier's. Pretty obvious who's trending up and who's trending down (way down)

In the last two years Timo is outscoring Fiala, Debrincat, Eichel. In the last 100 games Timo is 14th in the league in goals. Particularly at even strength.

They're different players. Stop comparing players that aren't comparable

Maybe...but not really for the reason I often see used in this comparison.

Minnesota could have fit Fiala. It probably would have been at the expense of Dumba or another player.
That seemed like the choice in Guerin's mind (see that unhinged radio interview he did at time).

So the problem wasn't so much cap space.
The problem was that they had already used their team-elected arbitration the previous summer.
They were not able to choose that route again.

That would not apply to San Jose as they have never had to bring Meier to arb (he was never eligible when due a contract).

SJ can fit Meier and other players whereas Guerin had to send people out to fit the cap situation after his buyouts. He didn't have the option to not trade whereas Grier has that option (and I still think will execute that option because I doubt he's getting the high asks he wants for Meier). I still don't see how the situations compare other than they are similar players and both are Swiss
