According to 32 Thoughts (Marek and Friedman), the Timo Meier sweepstakes "Look and feels like its headed toward New Jersey"

They believe it makes the most sense as everything lines up for a trade between the two sides within the next 2 weeks.

Other teams in contention are Vegas, Winnipeg, and Carolina

If NJ does end up acquiring Meier, there WILL need to be an extension attached to the deal

      About a potential return

Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec are off the table (James Nichols [Devils reporter]. As much as Sharks fans want him, Devils aren't trading the brother of their franchise player and the #2 leading scorer defensemen in the NCAA. Devils weren't willing to trade Nemec for DeBrincat, which means they wouldn't trade him for Meier

Sharks need defensemen prospects badly, so I think one of Walsh, Bahl, Okhotiuk, Casey, Mukhamudullin will have to be included

Some forward prospects/young players that can be included are Holtz, Zetterlund, Foote, Stillman, etc

I’ve disagreed on a lot with him, but he’s posted very valuable and unbiased published prospect rankings. But funny how the Hughes/Nemec crowd disappeared every time it gets brought up. No issues posting their feelings all day, but silence when the rankings get brought up.

Really don't like to stir the pot. I am just a big believer in trusting data, history, comps...and not a big believer in anyone's "gut" (including my own). I think we spend too much time listening to speculation from reporters...too little time listening to what GMs are actually saying.

As for Timo...I do actually like him. But NJD fans have a habit of putting all their eggs in one basket (like Gaudreau last summer) and I think that is a mistake (same can kinda be said about Sharks and Holtz). Be open to other options.

Also, I regret that I have lost your esteem. I hope I will one day win it back.

Thanks. I post prospect rankings, historical trade information, etc because I am very biased. Its the cure. Keeps things centered.

Yeah I very much like your thought process. I think the “gut feelings” people seem to just go with on here is head scratching. How these same people get given cold hard facts and ignore them is just refusing to see things other than how they see it and it’s just ridiculous

I don't know. Because they are fans...and want to see their teams win trades. Same as all of us, I guess.

There is a good book called 'Signal and the Noise' that has whole chapters on this very thing.

Well you are respectful most of the time which is nice, but I think you read too far into situations that arent the same.

The NHL is not a league of consistancy or data, its very old school fly by the seat of your pants. Thats why Chiarot gets a top 10 first, but Buchnevich gets a second.

GMs are gut feel people, and rarely rely on historical data.

If value was based on analytical impact, Timo would easily get a top ten first, but because NHL teams care more about organizational opinions and market pressures, they create more artifical values based on "needs" that may or may not exist in reality.
