I wrote an intentional overpay because I know that the deadline market is likely to be inflated due to a huge amount of the best NHL teams happening to be from the same division (AKA. the Metro). I think, however, that Crouse would be a perfect fit in Carolina and has enough term remaining where a large package is justifiable.

Wouldn't want the Canes anywhere near that deal for Crouse. He's a ~20 goal guy having a career SH% year. Nice middle 6 option on a reasonable contract, but not at that price.

Not at that price. Unless he can guarantee a ppg for his term.

i love the idea of getting crouse, but this seems a little overpay… maybe take the first out and i wouldn’t be mad.

Unfortunately, you'll have to pay for a "big & fast, 30 goal-scorer on a great contract". Basically a cheaper and younger Josh Anderson.

Edit: Both never scored 30 goals yet, would be funny if Crouse hits Anderson's career high of 27 this year.

Some perspective here. That is a hefty package of valuable assets. You would not spend that on a good player just because he is cheap for another 4 years. He's good, but not great. You're spending some of that on cap savings and that is just not good asset mgmt. You spend those kind of assets on a top tier talent, regardless of what you pay him. Sorry, but Waddell would never throw this kind of package at Crouse.

Hmm, I don’t like the deals as they are, but there is some potential for a decent 3 way trade option involving Crouse and Ekholm. As it stands, I wouldn’t even consider sending all that for Crouse alone, but if Arizona were to agree to retain half of Ekholm’s salary, that package should be enough for both Crouse and the retention. If it isn’t, add a bit more, but nothing significant.

So how about:
To Nashville: 2023 first (CAR), R. Suzuki, D. Coghlan, (maybe something from Arizona)
To Arizona: M. Ekholm (from NSH), V. Koivunen (CAR), S. Morrow (CAR), 2024 first (CAR), 2023 2nd (CAR), 2024 2nd (PHI from CAR)
To Carolina: L. Crouse, M. Ekholm (50% retained by Arizona)
