The competitive window got at least 2 years shorter on the backend.
By 2029 this team is gonna get slower, bloated, kinda old and not have any cap flexibility whatsoever.
If Timo Meier doesn't give us a dynasty in the 20s, this trade will not have been worth it at all.

The more I think about it, the more to me it seems that Grier was very adamant on getting Mercer from NJ, but Fitz didn't want to do that, so he offered him a quantity of assets to the point he couldn't refuse anymore.
