As next to Chycrun, Ekholm is the best D available this TDL. Issue is the pricey contract but if NSH retains 1.5mill its not bad

I know Ekholm is a solid top pair D, but he’s going to be 33 in a few months. A 1st is the most id give up for him if I were the kraken GM

I'd say there is an argument. 7th in points while playing on one of the worst teams in the league. Better defensive numbers than every single player who has more points than him.
2nd in 5v5 points, 1st in 5v5 points/60. Maybe not top 5 player, but he is easily one of the best, if not the best player 5v5 this season in the league.

Hughes is #1 5on5, imo. Petey is close #2. Both are having breakout seasons. Jack has carried his wingers all season, w/ the exception of Bratt when together. Hard to imagine anyone else scoring 29 EVG with his line mates. Biggest diff - Jack is winning. But, props to Petey. He's def. an elite player. Just depends on how much emphasis you place on winning when you compare top players.

Pettersson has higher points/60 rate, but Hughes has better overall EVO. Pettersson however is far better defensively. Pettersson has made all of his linemates look elite. Kuzmenko is having a monster season, and Pettersson is a huge reason why. Boeser has been terrible all season yet somehow has 37 points in 50 games. Mikheyev is a career bottom six player but Pettersson made him look very good. While Jack Hughes is playing on a far superior team, there really is nothing Pettersson can do about the ECHL level defense and goaltending. If Petey isn't on the team, the Canucks are probably the #1 contender for Bedard. Overall I think both players are very close

Seeing coaches frustrated with player efforts after their GM tells them they aren't winning anyway and players around the league aren't even being allowed to help their teams because they "might" be traded.
I'm conflicted. Yeah, you're getting paid and should have some professional pride, but the GM is actively sabotaging your morale and ability to win games. If he gave up, why shouldn't you?
That's got to be a hard sell for a coach. You want your players to do more than "phone it in", but can you really expect them to do things like risk injury in a wasted season?

How do you motivate your players when the GM prefers you lose to get better picks and your paycheck isn't dependant on your performance?

I wonder if this metric (they're from EH, right?) incorporate transition data.
The sheer amount of exits and entries, be it from carries or passes, that Hughes generates on a nightly basis is nothing short of ridiculous.
I'd suspect Hughes has Pettersson handedly beat in that department.
