I wonder if the Sabres become ninja buyers…

Just dug through their team a bit. Their cap situation is fantastic besides Skinner, but he’s actually having a great year.

It’s Okposo’s last year, potentially freeing 6 milly

Lotsa decent elcs/RFAs.

Ben bishops LTIR drops off this off-season.

A million dollar cap penalty also drops off.

Buffalo gonna be a wagon soon.

They’re only spending 15 million on defense, and that should continue to next season. That’s kinda silly - STL is at 30 million and our backend is in shambles.

Tage Thompson gonna get close to Austin Matthews numbers, except 7.1 aav. Tuch above point per game under 5milly aav.

If I had to guess who is traded next from their team it would be Casey Middelstadt. Not a bad player at all, but it does look like when he’s due for more money they could be pinched because their entire defense is due the same year including all the big names. Wouldn’t be surprised if they get ahead of it while his value is much higher due to team control. Or maybe they just roll with it.

If they can somehow get rid of Skinner … they’d probably have the best looking cap situation in the entire league. Besides okposo their oldest skater is 30….and besides skinner they have 0 players under contract into their 30s.

Imma call it. Buffalo wins a cup in the next 36 months.

I wonder if this metric (they're from EH, right?) incorporate transition data.
The sheer amount of exits and entries, be it from carries or passes, that Hughes generates on a nightly basis is nothing short of ridiculous.
I'd suspect Hughes has Pettersson handedly beat in that department.

That’s a very specific stat so I don’t know

I could see a team like AZ or Chicago claim Kapanen off waivers, they have the space and could try to make him good again

Heres what I see Pitt retains 50% and he goes to a contender on 1.6mill

CHI wanted a similar package to Zaitsev to take his deal per a report yesterday

I gotta toss Tage Thompson on the list. He’s dragging the Sabres to relevance - 2 points out of the wildcard. He has a legitimate chance to put up 2x the goals and points that Eichel puts up. That’s kinda silly. I dunno who to kick off the list but I’m probably putting Tage in the top 3, maybe 2.

And high five Buffalo fans. I’m glad the O’Rielly trade worked. A lot of trades between the Blues and Sabres have sucked in the past. And I’m glad y’all don’t suck.

Edit: I may kick Karlsson off. Having a good year but not good enough to carry his team. His defensive liability is pretty substantial….

I'm think Db has me on his ignore list or something because I never see his posts, but I don't see how Karlsson can win the Hart while his team is at the bottom of the standings. Tage stands a chance if Buffalo makes the playoffs (which is looking likely). I think McDavid clearly has the Hart locked down though.

Yep, Perfect fit for a rebuilding team. Kapanen is still only 26 and he'll rebound. They'll pick him up for free and then him for good assets at next year TD

Not going to speculate. But it's usually due to substance abuse, in particular painkiller addiction or similar rehabilitation drugs.

Don't know if I agree with this because Washington is not very pro Canadian players

I like it. This is the plan and we are going big. Make it happen. This is the youth movement we need

If this does happen, I have a sneaking suspicion it would not include Washington's 2023 first (or if it does, it will have serious conditions), just based on how MacLellan has approached the last couple deadlines. I'd have to think, as long as the report that Arizona is still looking for 2 1st round picks/prospect equivalents, that McMichael, the BOS 1st, Mitchell Gibson, and perhaps another asset is gone.

I have never put anyone on the ignore list. That’s a pretty soft thing to do IMO

I think he's about the same amount of value as Schenn, so if Jensen gets a first, Schenn gets a first.
