Aren't you still over the cap, even with a 3rd team retaining?

You would need to do the Kucherov Gambit to make the money work

If Leschyshyn is waived by the 25th, and kravtsov is included in a trade, they will have just enough on deadline day.

That being said, NYR have already said they aren’t trading the 2023 1st rounder. It’s most likely going to be:

Kravtsov+2nd to Chicago plus an additional 3/4th rounder to a 3rd team to retain

The only way NYR trade the 1st is if Chicago is paying the other team(s) to retain

With having a 3rd team retain, waiving one player by the 25th, then trading another on deadline day, they have enough cap space.

Not necessarily. As long as a player is waived before the 25th and accrues cap space, then another is dealt on deadline day, they can make it work.

I would really love to see the math! I've played with the Rangers cap space for fun and there was not much leeway unless you play with a 20 man roster, which is not ideal.

Gotcha, I just saw the -$4,678,969 cap space and did the quick math in my head so I assumed it wouldn't be enough. Would the Rangers have to play with less than 23 guys tho?

So the Rangers are compliant as we speak. Their deadline cap space sits at $908,667.

Rangers waive Leschynshyn which saves them $766,667 right now, but that accrues cap space over time and will hit $905,000 by March 3rd.

They trade Kravstov ($875,000) + Picks and prospects for Kane retained at 50% by Chicago and a second 50% by Arizona or Anaheim which brings his cap hit to $2,625,000.

    $908,667 + $905,000 + $875,000 = $2,688,667 - $2,625,000 = $63,667 in Cap Space.

They would have to skate with only 1 scratch every night until playoffs I believe. Highly unlikely, but doable. Would rather see Bujstad and a middle-six RW instead.
