Initial Creation Date: Feb. 22, 2023
Published: Feb. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I created a monster
Trades
1.
CAR
  1. Meier, Timo
Additional Details:
Meier with no retention and no extension to the East is the big thing here. New Jersey would have to move money back or get retention, and they want an extension in place. With the Canes not caring about that, it's going to be a cheaper price. New Jersey could beat this, but this is not an apples-to-apples comparison.
SJS
  1. Drury, Jack
  2. Heimosalmi, Aleksi
  3. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (PHI)
2.
VAN
  1. Coghlan, Dylan
  2. 2023 5th round pick (VAN)
3.
CAR
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
CHI
  1. Suzuki, Ryan
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (CAR)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (PHI)

No reason to do the Vancouver trade. Chatfield has been an excellent 3RD. Upgrade de Haan if anything.

I'm pretty sure LeBrun said the STL was willing to pay the (2) 1sts they acquire for ROR and Vlady for Timo. Pretty smart move if they can sign ROR back next year who actually said he didn't want to leave STL.

Major disagree, de Haan has had a FAR better season than Chatty. de Haan has played well enough to justify top 4 ice time

That's all well and good, but San Jose reportedly want more to keep him in the West

I'm 100% for DW getting Timo and Love Tom appearing on the daily face off with Seravalli saying CAR is more aggressive now than ever before.

Just noting it might take a little more than the above. I truly think it'll be Nikishin instead if Drury and the 2nd.

And Waddell has already said Nikishin is not on the table, and Morrow will not be moved for anyone on an expirig contract, that was reported in the Athletic a week ago.

I'd personally rather have Morrow. SJS can afford to wait (continue the tank) for Nikishin's contract to expire in the KHL. Also, Timo doesn't 100% fit expiring contract if you sign an extension like a Hampus Lindholm last year. Timo's just such a good fit. I'd send Nikishin for the right guy for sure.

Agreed, not a fan of tanking but don't think the Sharks would mind waiting for Nikishin. And Timo would be filthy on the Canes.

Meier has an expiring contract...

Nikishin is the best defenseman possibly in KHL history and he's 21. He's not even in consideration to be moved. That is beyond doubt.

Morrow is not going to be moved for a player on an expiring deal. This has been the case for years. Those two are non-starters right now in any trade, especially Nikishin.

Nikishin is the best D man arguably in KHL history... he's not even a starting point for the Canes.

I never said you needed to agree with me. If CAR keeps Nikishin then in 3 years he'll fit in. I just want Waddell to make a move. The Owner said now is the time we're going to be more aggressive than ever...prove it DW!

Just be careful. The KHL is extremely different than the NHL. There is a reason his stats jump enormously when playing the St. Petersburg SKA. He's clearly good. Just the best ever in history stuff be careful

He was one of the best D men in the KHL on a nothing team before his extremely high value move to SKA. There's a reason 9 players and a 9 million rubles were traded for him. Ignore the counting stats, he's one of the best passers in the league, he's one of the most physical D men in the league, he's one of the best skaters. He's untouchable. And he's doing this in the 2nd best league in the world.

Oh, so you're going to be disappointed when your rental winger is moved. Gotcha

Nikishin isn't a starting piece though. Waddell has already said he's not moving Nikishin

Again, I would. You and DW don't have to agree with me. I think the window is now. If people believe his value is as high as you do...then maybe we can keep that 1st or Heimosalmi??? I would just sell high. He's not coming over for years...thats official. The Canes are REALLY good now. Trade something at its highest value.

Canes are already trying to buy that KHL deal out... there's no reason for the Canes to move his rights. They're indefinite, and the Canes will be in a major cap crunch when they can sign him to his ELC.

So there's a bit to unpack in this one. Yes his rights are indefinite. His own career is not...albeit he's young so it's for a while. As far as the "buying it out"...I need to do more research if I'm being honest. I tend to think the NHL would jump all over CAR for something like that, but admittedly...i need to look into that.

I'm not saying don't get value. Hypothetically speaking...woukd you do it 1 for 1?

Of course you would. We'd be stupid not to.
