Now is the time to make moves

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 23, 2023
Published: Feb. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I have to think that right now is the optimal time to make our deadline trades. I have multiple reasons for saying that, but here is my rationale. Chicago is absolutely buzzing right now they are on a 4 game win streak including beating 3 contenders. They are facing three teams in SJS, ARZ, and ANA that are all vying for tank positioning and I don’t see this team losing with Patrick Kane playing like a man possessed. It’s a perfect time to gut the team with tank commander Zaitsev on the way. A lot of hawks have played solid hockey over the recent stretch of games and it’s hard to see how their value could get higher. Save the 2nd market guys like AA, Lafferty and Johnson for the day of the deadline.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  2. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
EDM has the option to send either their first in 2023 or 2024.
EDM
  1. Domi, Max ($1,500,000 retained)
  2. Khaira, Jujhar
Additional Details:
I have to think Domi has played himself into the conversation of a late first… and assuming that EDM misses out on Kane (after they made a pitch to him he has yet to decide) Domi provides exactly what they are looking for with forward depth and production playing with talented players. JP comes back so EDM has flexibility for another move on D (Klingberg).
2.
CHI
  1. 2023 1st round pick (LAK)
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Hawks can take on Walker OR retain half. Not both.
LAK
  1. McCabe, Jake ($2,000,000 retained)
3.
CHI
  1. Brisson, Brendan
  2. 2023 1st round pick (VGK)
VGK
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
  2. Stalock, Alex
Additional Details:
It might take a lot of convincing, but I would argue Vegas is Kanes best shot at a cup outside of the rangers. If Stone comes back they have a disgusting lineup.

If you were to take the name recognition outside of the equation, teams have absolutely paid more for players with similar statistical profiles (points, face-off%, skillset).

Yeah. I mean, he was in the realm of a 2nd round pick BEFORE he started tearing things up. It's possible he could be in that late 1st/early 2nd territory now. ESPECIALLY with retention.

I would accept that offer as the Los Angeles GM if the first were in 2024.

puljujarvi is a nice piece for a bad team so i do think a 2nd is more realistic

Not really. He is a pending RFA that will not get an extension from CHI because they will not give him his qualifying offer. So the only value he has is EDM clearing the cap space.
