Could be. The dominos will be interesting for sure. If the Leafs choke in Round 1 again, then Dubas and Keefe are toast. I could see Trotz finding that role appealing. I like Dubas and what he's done in Toronto, but I'm curious to see how the Ottawa market would respond to hiring him so shortly after his unsuccessful tenure in Toronto.
Whoever gets hired, I think it would be an absolute homerun to hire Jacques Martin as the President of Hockey Operations, where he can mentor/work with a new GM, coach and the hockey ops department.
Yeah, Trotz would definitely be interested he talked about how it takes special players and special coaches and GM to work in Toronto and New York, and how he would like to coach again (this year after winter) or go into management. The timing of his comments were too convenient when he made them imo, since both teams were having rough patches.
Honestly, Dubas has done a really good job in Toronto for a new GM, just hasn't been able to get the results done, he might not get the GM role but some team somewhere will definitely hire him. If Ottawa can get him for cheap, I think they do it. Dubas+Keefe have won on every level except the NHL, they figured out the regular season, it's the post-season success that evades them. I think the goal for new ownership will just be to get the Sens into the playoffs. Based off what you said, it sounds to me that Jacques Martin+Dubas+Keefe might be able to turn this team around.
The Sens core is locked already, so there's no worries about Dubas giving the teams stars too much money.
