They have extra cap this year that they won't have next, so they are getting more lottery tickets. They won't be adding enough rentals to use up all their cap.

They have more than $11 million in deadline cap space, so why not use it to get some picks?

I think they still have like 10 million in available space for this year. Next year they have no space. Just taking advantage of what they have to buy some picks retaining on expiring contracts. Can't buy anyone with term, have enough space to bring on any rentals if they buy, makes sense to me.

Please don't ask me to explain where the space actually comes from, because I have no idea. Cap voodoo.

Cap space is calculated daily. Today, we are projected to finish the year with $2,605,980 in actual cap space. If we added a player with a $10,257,581 cap hit today, we wouldn't have to pay them that full cap hit, just a prorated amount for the remainder of the season. Their prorated cap hit would amount to $2,605,980 in real money for the rest of the year. Every day we spent under the cap earlier in the year helped build that cap space. Hopefully that makes sense.

Thanks, it does help a bit. For the most part I think I kind of understand the cap but I find I lose the plot a bit when dealing with accrued space, LTIR, butouts, etc.
