The Devils still have Nemec, L. Hughes, Holtz, Sharangovich, Bahl, and Mercer. They got one of the best wingers in the league and didn't hurt their future or their present in the slightest. Grier is either a prophet who can see into the future or just delusional. This is horrible for San Jose IMO, although I do like Zetterlund as a get. They didn't even get 2 first round picks which would have been the very least NJD could've offered

In Grier's defense, it might have been a harder sell to most contenders given Meier's ridiculously high QO. NJD is in a position to buy and also have the necessary cap space to extend Meier. That is the only possible way this return can be justified, although I find a lack of interest in Meier due to his QO to be a pretty big stretch. Can't say I'm surprised given how lackluster Grier's trades have been though, can't wait for Edmonton to add EK65 for Cody Ceci

Bad day for all the clowns on CF yelling about how Meier was going to get a dragon haul, and I say that as someone who likes Zetterlund.

A late 1st (maybe 2?), a b prospect, a ****ty 'A' prospect (Mook sucks lol), a cap dump, a 7th (very important), and a decent young depth guy. LMAO

Devils kept all of their valuable prospects and got TIMO MEIER (who is an RFA, not UFA)

FLEEEEEEEECE

Win for the Devils in my opinion. They receive a coveted power forward under their control who fits right in with the age of the core. On paper it may look a lot but the guy is proven. Also… Meier > Eichel. Just had to sorry.

what a STEAL for New Jersey. That fact they didn't have to give up Mercer or Holtz or any of their A-Tier prospects is a massive win.

Grier is really proving he's one of the worst GMs in the league. Has he won a trade yet?

Fair deal, sure SJ didn’t exactly get quality but they got so much quantity that will help their future it makes up for it while NJ has gotten another good fairly young winger to help their core, NJ’s window is only starting

I can't process this trade rn. Ik all the extra pieces are for contract reasons and don't really mean much but its just crazy to see a 13 peice trade actually go down. Anyway Sharks got worked, huge W for NJ to get Meier while keeping Holtz, Mercer, Nemec, etc. And as a canes fan... pain.

Very impressive that the Devils got this done without trading any of their top prospects. It's disappointing that the Sharks got no impact pieces for an elite winger

I'd say it's a pretty fair deal.

If we pile up the individual asset worth, SJ got assets with the combined value of around 3 firsts for a player with no future left in the team. For a rebuilder, that's a decent haul. Still, a bit of a disappointment for them that they couldn't land a single top prospect / young player to build around.

NJ getting Timo Meier without having to give up any of their top3 prospects is a W in itself.

NJ kind of had to do this considering their opponent is NYR who gonna trade for Kane before Friday and already went and got Tarasenko

Plus they got Shesterkin whose a scary goalie

Gonna be an interesting series

Deal looks good but if Meier goes I want 10mill x 8 years things gonna get complicated

Think Devils win. Good for them to get more than Meier back for that Holtz-less package.
Honestly, I thought It'd be something like Meier(50% retained) for Holtz, Mukhamadullin, Johnsson, '23 1st, '24 3rd.
But the actual trade works out a lot better than that for them.
