On a scale of Tampa to Arizona how many draft picks do you have in 2023?

This trade must have a planned dirt cheap contract extension in place.

I am shocked by this trade, and that’s not good because I have to wake up early tomorrow. I wonder how this even started

NASH: We want two firsts for this RFA who is by all means having a down year… we like ‘‘em that much

Tampa: We can’t do two firsts, we traded all our firsts to Chicago for Hagel.

NASH: How about your 2025 1st and a couple other picks?

Tampa: It’s not off the table, but it needs to be top ten protected.

NASH: Okay, good start how about the other picks?

Tampa: Let’s see what do you want we got 2,3,4,5…

Nash: We’ve got a deal, it’s a pleasure doing business with you!

I saw that Nashville traded Jeannot and a figured it was another weird or bad move by Poile. Oh boy. I was wrong. So very wrong. Apparently Poile isn't entirely crazy.

So, let me get this straight. Poile got for
Neidereiter: a 2nd rounder (traded to a divisional rival no less)
Jeannot: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and roster player.

My brain is broken. Fleecing by Nashville.

Kudos to Nashville, with chances of finding young prospects. Thinking positively, he was a walk-on on your farm team and you helped develop him to the point Tampa was willing to trade for him.

I wish that someone had proposed something close to this exact trade a week ago, so we could now apologize for all the unkind things we would have said about his evaluation skills and grasp of hockey . . . I would have been first in line, because I think this would have been an overpayment BEFORE including the first . . .

What's fascinating to me is to speculate about how this came to happen . . . did Poile tell Brisebois that he wanted three firsts for Jeannot and Brisebois managed to negotiate him down???

That's quite the price tag. Tampa still has a 6th and two 7ths in this upcoming draft, who I'm sure will turn out to be Hall of Famers

Ironically it started at two firsts.

I just realized that Toronto paid more for ROR (who is better than Jennot) than TBL paid for Jennot

Who was TB bidding against? Did they hear an echo in the background and thinking someone was matching them so they kept getting bigger and bigger?

Can’t spot commenting on here I guess. Can’t wait for Patrick Kane to go for a conditional 7th and Trouba’s helmet.

NSH almost got a better return for Jeannot than SJS did for Meier. Absolutely ridiculous for a guy who's having an awful year.

But hey: if it works, it works. Just ask Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow. And if you go even further back, you can ask Tomas Kaberle.

The price is higher when you're talking about an $800k player who is an upcoming RFA. Tampa will either re-sign him or they will recover assets by trading him elsewhere since he would then have to sign with the receiving team. With someone like Meier, for example, the Devils could theoretically lose him for nothing. We also had to give more picks than anyone else because our 1st is in three years, which is less valuable than a 1st right away especially when we're asking for top ten protection. Most rebuilding GMs want pieces that will help them be good in a couple of years, whereas this pick going to Nashville will start to benefit them in like 5-6 years in all likelihood especially since it's top ten protected so it likely won't be used for an immediately ready NHL player. So it makes sense that we had to pay a lot, and also, GMs at this point probably just know if BriseBois calls you at the deadline, you can ask for anything and he'll pay the price because he's identified that whatever player is the best to fix whatever hole he sees and he'll pay any amount of futures. This is what BriseBois does every year, and I always think it's a ridiculous overpay, and then we always benefit. This is probably the most extreme one yet, especially since Jeannot is underperforming offensively and has bad defensive analytics so I don't know what the front office sees in him. But... they have yet to miss on any of these deadline moves.

Losing Foote sucks though. He's young, cheap, and better than Fleury or Myers.

This is atrocious for Tampa. This honestly might be one of the worst deals in recent memory.
A draft pick in every single one of the first five rounds of the draft in the next 3 years, and a reclamation project in Cal Foote, for a guy with 14 points this year. It feels like a total desperation move by Brisebois to keep Toronto and Boston at bay. The issue being, he hasn't got back anyone close to the caliber of ROR, while giving up as much (or maybe more!) than the Leafs did.

Jennot trade was Trotz

Poile steps down end of the year. Trotz just got hired today to learn to take over.

Hagel and Coleman were playing way better and had teams calling. Goodrow is a good example though. Cost much less though.

Not doubting it’s an overpayment at the moment. But as we’ve seen time and time again, in most cases you can’t judge a trade a whole **checks twitter** 54 minutes after it being announced. Jeannot may end up fitting in like a glove in tampas top 9. That’s clearly what Brisbois is expecting or else he wouldn’t have paid that crazy price. But you’re right. That’s a whole lot of assets for a guy struggling. He very well may work out, but if it doesn’t, definitely won’t be a good example of asset management

Habs fans are right about Anderson

I don’t even want Anderson traded but it would be entertaining to see so many eat crow.

Very very happy with this deal. Jeannot was nice in the first year but Poile got a BAG for him. Holy what a return

You end the comment well. Jeannot may very well be useful for Tampa. They still paid too much
