If Jeannot got a haul can Lafferty get one also

Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 27, 2023
Published: Feb. 27, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tanner Jeannot: (6"2) age 25, (LW/RW) RFA
2021-2022, 24 goals 17 assists = 41 pts 81 games
2022-2023, 5 goals 9 assists = 14 pts 56 games

Sam Lafferty: (6"1) age 27 (LW/C/RW) 1.5 years left on contract
2021-2022, 5 goals 6 assists = 11 pts 46 games
2022 -2023, 10 goals 11 assists = 21 pts 51 games

Tanner Jeannot and Sam Lafferty and Lafferty seem like they could get similar returns. Jeannot is having a down year, but is still better than Lafferty. I do think that Lafferty makes up for that value in skill with his contract, as teams like EDM might be looking to add players with term that can play anywhere in the lineup.
Lafferty is exactly like Brandon Hagel, but he is a bit older. People may not expect him to go for this much, except Davidson is going to get a bidding war for him.
This would be an incredible return for the Blackhawks and although it seems unlikely, remember that Hagel and Jeannot both got returns pretty similar to this.

One GM making a baffling deal doesn't imply that another GM will make an equally baffling deal.

I think Laff and Raddysh have more value than the average ACGM trade suggests, but...not THIS much. The Jeannot deal was probably an outlier.

Well, there is a big difference between a protected 2025 1st and a 2023 1st. But, otherwise, yeah, I agree. CHI SHOULD technically be able to get a comparable haul. I have a suspicion that CHI won't get the kind of hauls all the other teams are getting, though.

What he is trying to say is that the market says otherwise. So, if EDM wants to improve their team at this deadline they are going to pay a premium no matter who it is.

If the ask for these horribly mid players is 1st rounders i think id rather gamble with the current roster, if im edmonton, its Erik Karlsson or bust

EK would be a dumb move for EDM. Total waste of assets and cap space for something that they don't need in the least bit.

Lafferty never got 20G though, he isn't thought to have that potential like Jeannot. So, maybe he fetches a 2nd+3rd or two 2nds now, but he won't be getting a 1st+ I don't think.

our top players have made it clear they would like a puck mover on the top pair, a lot of the teams struggles are due to Ceci playing above his weight class and nurse not being able to carry him, put a puck mover next to Nurse forces nurse to do what hes good at (being a more defensively sound 2-way dman) essentially EK is meant to be an upgrade on Barrie who can actually play 1st pair and not result in constant failed exits and icings

Dont you want to see that PP with Karlsson on it? Or 3v3 overtime with 97 and 29? Would make the regular season more interesting even if it doesn't help the Oilers in the playoffs.

I do think upgrading on Barry is a good thing, tge other options aren't good for them, tgey will need to develop some defenders themselves.

Its the same logic behind why they overpaid for Goodrow and Coleman giving up in essence 3 first round picks for them.
Cant say it didnt work last time around and Jeanot is one Tough SOB and a good goal scorer.

The price tag minus a 1st round made sense but adding Cal Foot through the idea of a 1st being required out , or so i thought.
I mean he's a good player but thats a lot and his cap isnt even that low with term like that due from CHI last year

the market has clearly changed since then. The hawks should get at least 2 2nd rounders + a prospect for Lafferty

Well, it sounds like it is not happening and EK will be staying put at the deadline. If EDM goes for him, good luck, I guess. But EDM has much more obvious holes and shortcomings in their roster than spending an absolute BUTTLOAD adding another offensive weapon with a gigantic cap hit. And EK's price will only go up, the more retention there is, which will be very expensive considering his actual salary and term.

EK to EDM has "MISTAKE" written all over it.

4th in hits, 5th in PIM, 24 goals last year, 9 fights this year, pending RFA that they can sign long term. I really don't think they are that comparable

He was an outlier due to his 19% sh% last year. If that was more at his average, he would have gotten a 2nd at most
