Buch has two years left on his deal after this one on a deal that takes him to age 30. The Blues will be nowhere close to contenders during those last two years and I’d be shocked if they sign a 30 year old winger long-term. There’s a good chance you trade Buch anyways in two seasons, why not do it now so that the future’s acquired have a two year head start?

It makes sense, although I would hate to see him go, as he’s probably the best all-around forward on the team. Doubtful Buchnevich is super happy with what has transpired - I’m sure he was expecting contention. As you mentioned, no matter what happens, it doesn’t seem likely that he signs 4-5 more years at 30 with STL in a few years.

StL would have to Faksa and Dobby back in the deal to make the salary cap work

I just don't know if Harley is a decent target. With Thomas and Kyrou locked, I'd hate to give up Buch but you're right, this club is at least 3 to 4 years before they can be competitive

Yeah maybe there’s better targets. I like Dallas’s 2024 first as potential to be like 10 spots higher than the 2023 first will be. They’ve had 0 injuries all year.
