What the Stars should do

Description
Every trade I made was for the purpose of getting the Stars immediately better, spending all the way to the cap, and make this one of the scarier teams in the NHL.
The first trade w/ Vancouver is for gaining a solid top 4 D in Tanev , rugged RW prospect in Jake Virtanen and a late 2nd. Sent back was Lehtonen's contract, but also the 3rd overall pick of the draft and a 2018 4th. Although steep, this immediately makes the Stars better and also allows them to get rid of a bad goalie contract.

Next is the signing of Niederreiter. Giving him 5.5 mil at 6 years means giving up a 2018 1st and 2018 3rd. However, this signing cripples a rival in Minnesota and giving you a top 6 RW who put up almost 60 pts last season.

In the Vegas deal I had them picking Johns with Janmark thrown in as a bonus for a 5th. Fair in my head.

Lastly is the Signing of Andre Burakovsky from the Caps at the maximum compensation being a 2018 2nd. This gives them more Top 6 depth and creating more of an offensive threat in the Stars top 6.

With a deep forward core now, Ben Bishop healthy and a strong D including Hamhuis, Klingberg, Tanev, the siging of Alzner (to round the top 6 out), and youngins in Honka and Lindell give them a solid deep core with many AHL call ups available. This Stars team could easily win the Stanley Cup with this lineup.

Since the Nino offer sheet is for >5 years, you would divide the $33 million by 5 to get the compensation value. $6.6 million makes it a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Burakovsky's $23,555,850 over 6 years would be a compensation value of $4,711,170 which is a 1st and a 3rd. You'd have to decrease the cap hit, decrease term, or not offer sheet Burakovsky since draft picks must be yours in the following season's draft.

futurehoefer, knowing that now, I'd sign them both to 5 year contracts and have Nino's contract at 5 mil in order to use the same draft picks i did.

We would most likely be able to match that. Expansion will actually help our cap situation and allow us to sign Nino and Granlund for $10.5 million or so. Chuck Fletcher has mentioned that he could possibly work out a 1 year deal with one of them with the promise of more money next summer when we have more space.
