I actually don’t mind this puistola seems like he has some upside and pulijarvi was never gonna work out here in Edmonton.

Puistola may end up as the best player in this deal. But Pulju now has a great chance to bounce back on Aho's wing (everyone who watched WJC '16 knows what they are capable of).

How Ken Holland still has a job baffles me to this day. What a **** trade. Prob the most **** trade we have seen in a while.

Good Cap dump.

I mean. Honestly, when you shopping a young player around for so long, what do you expect for the return?

I mean it’s a cap dump, nobody really wins…. It’ll be funny if Holland doesn’t do anything with this dump though.

Yes yes, then we will get all the underwhelming Fins as the last part of our mildly evil plan!

Very underwelming for Carolina in the middle of the eastern conference arm race.

Poolparty is a 4th liner by default, not a game changer. Wasted capspace.

Let me guess they should have given the moon for Josh Anderson instead?

Going to a place without nearly the same expectations, Carolina might be a perfect fit for him to get his game altogether

Oilers love drafting average talent with top 10 picks BUT Carolina loves trading / offer sheeting average talent picked in the top 10

Puljujärvi is in a contract year. If he is not scoring, he does not make a case for a better contract as a pending RFA.

Edmonton presently has the winning edge of this trade.

Finally

I know. I had enough. Needed that cap space. Holland can now stop making excuses.

This isn't a win for Edmonton. It's an admission of failure and the only thing the Oilers really get out of this scenario is the relief that this saga is finally over. Could Puljujarvi taken a bit more agency in hiring a skills coach? Maybe. Having a coaching staff that didn't objectively hate him (both McLellan and Woodcroft refused to play him more than 8 minutes a night) or an organization willing to support a top pick right out of the gate would have been nice.

But it's all hindsight now. A memory, a bad taste. Sail on Jesse. I hope the Hurricanes take better care of you than the Oilers did.

He doesnt have the hockey iQ. The Stars did the same with Gurianov. The Oilers did everything they could to get him going. He has no offensive upside when he cant score on McDavids wing. Hyman is having pucks bounce off him for a 100 pt pace. Move was way too late and they may have missed out on some of the best TDL targets now. That is the only what IF

I'm not suggesting there's a winner. is Puljujarvi worth 3 mil? Edm was way above sal cap and Puistola has some LIIGA time. If Edm does trade for somebody or sign somebody on. LTIR is already expiring at end of this year and there goes over 7 mil, so player is rental only. Similarly, without 7 mil plus in LTIR, the Cap will read 90+ mil. There went the first round pick that GM convinced player to come back to Edm. I don't know whether they can afford to sign anybody, if Sal Cap stays remotely the same, and the volume of players to get resigned.

Value obviously is better for the Canes but if that blocks them from making a bigger trade for a more impactful forward the only winners are every other playoff team in the east

For Jesse, this is a wait and see-situation. However it astonishes me how long the Oilers waited. If they traded him in the summer, they could have gotten at least something. Puistola is a really long shot by this point. Basically nothing.

I know right. These are the kind of posts that stopped Holland from dumping Jesse earlier. Appearances

I think this exact player type is the one that sees the greatest difference between European vs NA rink size. The playstyle is so vastly different, a player who has basically nothing but raw skill can thrive in EU. Much harder, if not impossible in NA.

Ive never such a play killer in all my life as an Oilers fan. Jesse was absolutely lost out there this season and had zero confidence with the coaching staff probably bullying him all season because of his gaffes whether its going offsides waiting for McDavid at the line coming with Mcjesus insane speed or simply his inability to find the soft areas on the ice.

This is what I like to call a Lose-Lose trade. Oilers finally admit defeat and Carolina takes on another overrated Fin.

Considering many in the media thought he'd be on waivers when Yamamoto returned, I think this is a pretty good return.
