Thrun said he wasn't going to sign in Anaheim so Anaheim automatically wins by getting an asset for someone who was walking, SJ does pretty good here too getting a decent D prospect

Win for Anaheim IMO. Got a 3rd for a guy who wasn't going to sign and someone who doesn't have much upside IMO (I'll eat my words in a few years)

If Thrun is definitely gonna sign with SJS, this is about as fair of a deal as it gets.

I’m wondering if he told SJS he will sign. That would be pretty curious. Both teams are west coast and rebuilding, so it would be odd to refuse to sign in ANA but be fine in SJS

One thing I will credit Grier with; is the Sharks defense pool is getting really strong.

He's 26 points in 28 games as a defenseman and captain at Harvard. His ceiling still projects as a capable middle 4 defenseman, really good skater, NHL size. Pretty strong chance he's in the NHL soon. That 3rd round pick won't be in the NHL for 3-5 more years typically and a small chance of making the NHL entirely. This is a good trade for Grier
