If Vancouver retains salary on Miller, their whole front-end needs fired. Retaining on a contract that hasn't even gone into effect yet.

The Canucks would only be retaining on the last year of Miller's 5.25M contract, they legally cannot retain his 8M contract at this time.

"Another complication is that the Canucks cannot retain salary in a Miller deal without retaining salary for the entirety of his next contract. That means if they retained 25% of his current 5.25 million cap hit, for example, they would also have to retain 25% of his of his $8 million cap hit on his next contract for the next seven years."

Okay, so apparently the rules have changed. Everyone on here last week was saying it only applied to current contracts.

Okay, so whoever is acquiring Miller is going to have to acquire the full contract (8M x 7 btw). Not a big deal.

He's 'injured' so that the Canucks can sit him without saying it's for Trade-related reasons. The guy was playing 25 mins per game last week.

I was mostly trying to see how close salaries were to fitting in both Chychrun and Miller. It's definitely possible. Probably needs more massaging then I did. But, does seem plausible with only Pettersson+Heinen leaving the roster. Gets even easier if McGinn gets claimed, which does seem unlikely. But, he brings more to the a hockey team than Kapanen and Kap was claimed.
