We did Quick Dirty

Created by: tryger
Team: 2022-23 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2023
Published: Mar. 1, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Obviously this upgrades the second pair and goaltending, but why not just give Quick the option to retire? Really in poor taste after the fan fare of Brown’s number being retired.

If they get either to stay at a good rate I agree, the Kings didn’t necessarily have to go all in this season, so if this results in no playoffs / first round exit, I’m wondering if this is good asset management by the Kings brass.

Agreed. The only way Blake can make up for it is if he still pulls of Chychrun like a pimp. We still have the assets

Terrible. And imo korpi isn’t an upgrade despite quick not playing well.

It’s like the maf situation but instead being there number one goaltender for over a decade

I'm at a loss for words. If the deal involved our 2023 first, I will consider this not merely a PR nightmare but also a HUGE hockey mistake. I'll wait to see the official announcement in a little while before commenting further.

I forget . . . does Rob Blake have a statue outside the arena?

I'm hopeful there's a conversation between Jarmo/Blake/Quick that goes as follows.
Quick: we all get what just went down...do you even want me in Columbus?
Jarmo: No, we don't need you here for the remaining 48 days. We'll just pay you out the remaining $634,920. We're in last place and our goalies can take us where we need to go. Stay in LA.
Blake: Sorry Jonathan, it's a paper transaction while I know it hurts, this team has a chance in our opinion. We needed the cap space.

Agreed. I feel like Blake however has to have some sort of thing in place? Quick coming back to LA on a 1day retirement contract? Maybe he doesn’t even report to Columbus?? This all just seems weird. Or maybe it’s just plain ol fashioned doin him dirty?

I think it’s just confusing, you just paid for a 10 year cup anniversary dinner and retired Browns number. Big time fan service and just said Quick is getting on track at the state of the franchise. How do your players and fans believe you moving forward? Kings will need to impress in the playoffs if this happened. Our window is officially open.

I hate this deal. It feels like Blake hit the panic button when he didn’t need to. There must be something else that’s going to follow. I just know Quick is going to get moved to a team like Vegas and then he shuts us down in the playoffs.

We shouldn’t be trading for rentals anyway since this doesn’t make us cup contenders. I give this trade a grade of D. Short term help at the expense of a first rounder with no assurance either will remain. They also have 2 goalies signed for next year meaning that if Korpisalo gets signed, we’re probably committed to dumping Petersen’s contract.

Last year was the get in and get smashed Year. A mid-late pick that won’t see LAK ice time for 2-4 years isn’t as important as giving Kopitar and the youth a kick of they can. The west is weak and not seeming to be loading up, might as well take a stab at trying to go on a run for the experience. Korp is better than quick so that’s at least a decent goalie option. I’m sure there’s a good chance at resigning 1 of them if not both. “Assets” are overvalued when you have lots of them and just leaving them on the top shelf at the back. None of the deadline deals were bad. TB would be the closest but cheap role player that is likely to resign cheap. Not bad

Objectively? Fair deal. LAK get an upgrade in net, and some solid D depth for the playoffs helps as well, not to mention they get first dibs at negotiations if things work out. In a wide-open Western Conference, this was the move to make. CBJ still end up with their 1st, 3rd, save $3M (pro-rated) in actual cash, and get a veteran G to finish out the season and let Tarasov stay in the AHL for a little while longer.

Subjectively? Yeah man, Quick was kind of done dirty. Understand why he was upset.
