Holy MacLellan W.

Eller will still be a Caps legend though, even with his recent awful play.

You’d think that if you trade a 2nd for Eller, you could at least get more than 31% retained

I like it. A 2nd two years removed is roughly equivalent to a current 3rd, so the price isn't that questionable.
Another astute move IMO. Solid in faceoffs, used to defensive deployment, and can still contribute.

Washington is having a great deadline! They are getting younger and aquiring picks while only dealing UFA's

Fair deal, Washington gets a good asset ( albeit only in 2025 ) and Colorado gets a 3c

This is a PSA to announce that Patrick Kane and Lars Eller got the same return.

I think it is a fair deal -
a strong FO% at 54%. PK face off taker and 4th line C - gives the Avs some decent depth and he move up a bit if needed. Helm maybe not coming back - if he works out and resigns for less than 2 mil a year I say great deal

How did they get a 2nd? There's no way he's worth that unless Avs already have a deal in place to extend him at below 1m, and even then hardly.

Think this is a fair market value trade.

Decent bottom 6 option with stanley cup experience (also clutch).

This has been a weird deadline for a Caps fan, but I gotta sit back and applaud GMBM for his masterful dumping of these old expiring Vets while getting a very young top 4 Dman in the process. Bravo, Mr. GMBM.

A 2nd does seem steep. But at the same time. If you go back to the Lehkonen deal everyone thought the avs lost that. Then he scores the game winning goal in the western conference finals. And the Stanley cup finals. Then if you go back to the Georgiev deal everyone thought the avs lost that. And yet he is having a very good season. And looks like a genuine starter. I say we give this trade a chance. Avs so far have made us look wrong on a few of there previous moves.

Interesting comparison with the Lehkonen trade. I never thought the Avs lost that trade – I liked Lehkonen in Montreal – but both involved a 2nd-round pick 2 years out, yet Lehkonen was a 26-year-old pending RFA who had been pretty consistent up to that point, while Eller is almost 34 and a pending UFA who has been on the decline for a few years. Those should be not even close in value. The difference is that the pick is all Washington’s getting in this trade. Montreal also got Justin Barron, who was a pretty highly regarded prospect at the time. I think he was the main piece in that trade for Montreal.

This is where EA sports gets the idea of a 2nd rd pick 3 years out having miniscule value
