Barabanov isn't very good and Benning is a bottom pair defenceman.

Nino Niederreiter got a '24 2nd, has just as much term, and is imo a better player than Barabanov. I think a second and a decent prospect or a middling pick is fair since Barabanov is at a really cheap contract.
Benning is at best a good 3rd pairing defenseman, and a right-handed one when the Pens' right side of the blue line is already set in stone.

The only reason Ty Smith spent any time in the AHL is because he is the only waivers-exempt D the Pens have. Nylander is the leading scorer in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and probably should've seen more NHL time as well.

Nino got a 2nd at $4 mil aav and on pace for 40 points at 30 years old. Barabanov is at $2.5 mil aav on pace for 55 points at 28 years old. I don’t see why he gets the same return. Benning has 20 points with 3 more years. Maybe they don’t need.

These aren’t rentals, cheap production with term doesn’t come cheap. Ty smith has been decent at the nhl level but Nylander isn’t proven at all at the nhl level.

Nino has a very good chance of hitting 25 goals, and if he heats up could reach 30. It's not likely Barabanov hits 20. GMs are willing to pay quite a lot for players that can score goals - Ilya Mihkeyev hit 20 once, and Vancouver gave him $4.75 mil aav. Furthermore, Niederreiter's a strong playdriver, has a physical aspect to his game, and is defensively responsible.
Barabanov doesn't do any of those last things as well. And yes, he is getting more points than Nino, almost that entire difference is through the power play. Even strength scoring is very similar.

Barabanov is a top six forward making 2.5 for another year after this, Benning is a middle Pairing shutdown D (with decent production) AT 1.5 FOR ANOTHER THREE YEARS.

You truly have no clue what you're talking about.
