NYR 2017-18 -- Shattenkirk; Raanta; Stepan

Created by: Dizz30
Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2017
Published: Jun. 14, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trying to build a winning culture, Carolina takes Stepan at a slightly inflated price (they have the cap space to spare). Shattenkirk comes home to NY.

NYR has to overpay to replace Raanta, necessary because Lundqvist is aging fast. Condon won't get a starting job, and $1.75 is enough to outbid other teams who don't want to overpay for a 1B or a backup.

Larry Brooks in the NY Post pointed out that they're not 1 player away from winning a cup. But this is what I think NYR WILL do.

Stepan has a hell of a lot of value in the NHL he will ONLY be traded for a significant return. He is not a salary dump as so many feel he is. He only gets traded because of **** contracts and really if I am Vegas I look to trade for him to be my franchise player to build a team around.

I like Stepan, but $6.5 million is too high for a second-line center. As I said, this is what I think WILL happen, irrespective of what I want. I think buying out Girardi means they're going for Shanttenkirk, who doesn't fit. Cutting Stepan is the best way to make that happen, and it's being reported on TSN that he's on the block.
