Jets are screwed

Created by: Howie
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The direction of this team is all over the place and no set path for the future surprised if we even make the playoffs at this point. The whole point of this deadline was to go in as the team is expiring in 2 years and the team had success. In 2 years we could be without wheeler scheifele Dubois niederreiter Hellebuyck demelo and Dillon. Ik some guys will stay but our best shot is right now and what do you do? Do Nothing but show that hey we like out team but not enough to go in for a long playoff run.

Ik the whole aspect of players not wanting to play here can be hard but you just have to find a way to overcome that. Look at the stasney deadline addition he was willing to give to get. The whole issue with chevy is the commitment he wants to compete but also think 5 years ahead. When you're team is good go for it no?

The whole idea of an underdog team here works but you need to have a set plan and with how the team is going this year with stumbles and lack of additions from management. Why nor rebuild at this point? I fully believe Dubois will be gone the team will see the flaws and just be in a state of never being bad or good and just forever developing guys and trading them for more guys or picks to develop.

Jets just can't afford to be mid

Exactly just choose a direction, we can’t afford to always be indecisive

This team has been garbage for a while now. It badly needed change a while ago.

2018/2019: Strong first half, terrible second half, first round exit

2019/2020: Meh all season, didn’t even make the playoffs technically because we lost in the qualifying round to the flames

2020/2021: Bubble year, first half solid, second half a collapse. Was on a huge losing streak going into playoffs. Somehow beat edmonton then got embarrassed by the habs.

2021/2022: Terrible all season and didn’t make playoffs.

2022/2023: Strong first half, terrible second half so far. Might not even make playoffs.

The west is open, you have a heavy top 6, Hellebuyck is hot....

Add Anderson and Edmundson and you could make a run!

Not a chance dawg. Don't have the cap long-term and block a trade here. You gotta assume 99% of ntc have winnipeg that's why it's so frustrating because chevy probably would have been in on so many more options in a better situation around the city

Yeah NTC and free agent market sucks for the Jets, and canadian teams in general.

Edmundson is from Manitoba though... there's hope!

No point on Edmundson as he's not good enough to warrant getting him this year was an all in year and look at what other teams in the playoff picture acquired and the jets have nino and that's it. How do you expect to win when other teams add important players to compete and you don't. Just why not sell this team won't make it past the second round so why stand pat where they are and not capitalize on the value of Dubois and scheifele and still try and squeak into the playoffs

Most TDL acquisitions underperform. No Stanley cup is won this week. Cheer up!

Yeah but it's not about the players it's about the direction and message. If the team shows that they aren't confident in buying to improve the team why do the players want to play for a team that doesn't believe in them with a major addition included?

Players like scheifele, wheeler, Hellebuyck, Dillon and demelo all expire in 2024 and if they don't like the direction of the team they can leave for nothing and leave the jets in a really rough spot (think of the 2019 blue jackets).

The team needs to have an identity on where it's going and right now it's just floating around in mid territory not choosing either all in or out.

Ik the price for the deadline is massive and would be wise to make more moves like nino just can't afford to have the team leave in 2 years for Nothing.

Why not capitalize on what you have and do a retool like Nashville? They know that they don't have a winning formula currently but also understand that the key guys are there and build around them. If we aren't gonna add to the group in a meaningful manner why try to compete when the likelihood of playoff success is low?

I'm fully on team retool rn as we can't afford to go into a deep rebuild or all in next year. If we go all in we can lose more than the blue jackets did. But if we rebuild why not tear it all down right if it's gonna be 3 years plus?

Overall I'm just sick and tired of the team just constantly getting my expectations up over and over thinking that the team will be different. This is just the same team every year being so passive that players know that not just the teams location is why they don't want to come here but knowing the direction is unknown.
