James Mirtle of The Athletic seems sure that the cap will raise to $75 million, but all the other top insiders seem to think it will stay flat at $73 million. Either way, Blackhawks will need to do more than just tinkering.

where did you hear $77,500,000 ? $3,000,000 is a lot of clams for Boyle and I doubt Colorado parts with Duchene that cheap.

I'm guessing Colorado would be asking for Forsling, Schmaltz, 1st and probably more.

Apparently, a bunch of beat writers have been trying to start such rumors. All the legitimate NHL insiders, such as Darren Dreger, Bob Mackenzie, Pierre LeBrun, seem to the think the cap will stay flat at $73 million for this upcoming season. However, as I mentioned above, James Mirtle of the Athletic seems 100% convinced with the revenue the NHL has brought in this past season, there is no way the NHLPA does not vote to move the cap up to a brisk $75 million. If you've never heard of The Athletic before, it's a subscription-based online site, but Pro Hockey Rumors does a great job of summarizing all this up.

McKenzie literally said there was "zero chance" the cap stays flat - he even talked about on his twitter what the cap would be if the NHLPA did a 2% escalator ($1.4m added) and LeBrun said he could see the NHLPA going with 2.5% like last year which would move it to just above $75m.
