Considering Quick is only making $2.5M this season (even less when prorated), the retention really is not a big deal here. Plus we get a replacement.

Love the storyline, but yeah...Quick has been trash, and that cap hit is awful, so could not have really done much more than this.

Kind of expensive for a 3rd stringer.

As an Oilers fan, I endorse this move by Vegas.

This is terrible for the Blue Jackets.

For a 7th too????????? I don’t get the logic

Columbus just saved some money and got rid of player who didn't want to be there. That's it.

Thompson is still out for an indeterminate amount of time I believe. They could have gone for a different option, but Quick was available and has playoff experience while their regulars have none.

I'm hoping for chaos, where Vegas meets LA in the playoffs, and Quick starts and shuts them down completely.

Jonathan Quick has been negative in the Saves Above Expected stat for four of the last five seasons! He is no longer an NHL goalie!

Giving up assets to get him is a major loss.

seems like a fair deal. Vegas gave up basically nothing for a goalie that can sit in the press box when/if people get back from injury

Columbus for anything for a cap dump. Quick is bad at this point. Literally worse than Mrazek last year. He's been a bad goalie 4 of the last 5 years and last year (the good year) was just a hot couple months to start the season.

It's a cheap enough cost for insurance for vegas, but people don't seem to be able to understand that quick of 2023 isn't quick of 2014

Vegas is getting a two time Stanley Cup champion and former Conn Smythe Trophy winner.

Vegas gets said player with retained salary set at 50%.

Vegas is only paying a waivers clearance and a 7th round pick for said player.

Vegas wins the trade.

It would have been interesting to see what Quick would have done in the playoffs. It could have been a good story, but barring an injury to Hill I don't think we'll see him. I wonder if he has qualified to get his name on the cup again if Vegas wins. I expect that he has by virtue of playing some regular season games for them and dressing as a backup in the playoffs. If so, then good for him. That should offset any bad feelings he may have had about not being able to finish his career in LA. I wonder if he'll sign a one-day contract so he can officially retire as a King, or choose to go out as a member of the Stanley Cup champion Knights if they win.
