From scratch with scraps and picks

Description
Trade everyone for picks and young good prospects. Keep all the prospects acquired along with the existing habs prospects in the farm to create a bond/ wolfpack mentality. Sign old future hall of famers with smarts for a few years. They'll need to sit out quite a few games through out the season to rest/recover. Seize the opportunity and call up the prospects to play with them. IMO it's one of the best ways to develop them. Eventually most of the prospects will graduate to the pro team within a couple of years, since they'll be familiar with each other, it'll make the transition easier. At the same time if a team calls up on TDL interested in acquiring a seasoned veteran for a playoff run, there could be a hefty return for Thornton e.g considering what Minny gave up for Hanzal. That way the Habs could keep adding to the draft pick and prospect cupboard. I'm wouldn't expect much from this team obvioulsy , so the lower they finish the higher their own draft picks will be. The next couple of years will be hard, but it'll get better. Perhaps sooner than later

No free agents are signing in montreal if you do this to your vets and actively try to tank. This is the worst time to tank now too... Colorado gets a 4th overall pick for their dreadful season... this is terrible

I understand your perspective... Thornton and Marleau e.g. if they're not happy with how the team is performing even in the 1st year, I'd trade them on TDL to a contender if they demand it. In the case of Boyle and Hanzal they're one year deals (that I've overpaid) so if the team isn't playoff bound I'll trade them either way. At the end of the day as you've noticed I've overpaid for most free agents either in salary and/or term, deals that most teams wouldn't offer...yes on the surface it looks like a shitty situatuon for the Habs current vets, but like mentioned in the description above, it might turn out better than it seems. There's not alot of speed up front, but they're IQ is superior and theres alot of big boys up there that could take up space and make the oppositions forecheck and attack game not as easy as you'd expect. Anyway like you said it could turn out to be a disaster, but I'm saying it could be better than you think.

Long term it would obviously be better but there would be many hard years before that happens. Something I wouldn't want to be a part of as a fan.

Maybe if you don't sign 35 year old+ slow pokes and keep our talent. This would be good

What talent?? Little schoolgirl chokers scared to go in the corners. I'll gamble on rebuilding with draft picks and prospects. Hopefully Bergevin with his clown suits won't be around to stagnate their development. Just by hiring his crew of clowns like Therien and JJ did enough damage

I think of TO and EDM. And what they went through all these years. Personally the fact that Im still waiting for something 24 years later, I've become a little numb, and a few more years feel less painful now a days
