I did trades like Asplund and a 2nd for Boeser, and Asplund was the dealbreaker to many sabres fans. Guess not to the management!

Over the past 3 years Greenway has 18 goals in 162 gms and Asplund has 17 in 135.
Some how Rasmus ended up in Granato's dog house and is only worth a 7th.
VERY DISSAPPOINTING TDL
Nashville did great this TDL, 2 first, 2 seconds, and two former first round picks.

As the esteemed @gretzkyghosts implies, there's something going on here behind the scenes that we don't know about. Every time a Buffalo fan would post an ACGM featuring a trade with Anaheim or Los Angeles including Asplund, he would contend that Asplund's value was in the third-fourth range. Therefore, it seems like the Buffalo front office really wanted to see him gone, because they preferred to move him for a monkey point instead of just keeping him. After all, it's not as if Asplund was a UFA.

What are you going to do? He wasn’t a fit in the Buffalo lineup, mainly because there are more desirable options available. GMKA did him a favour and put him in a spot where he could succeed, and open a spot for a prospect

Never really got to see him play much this year. Hard to tell where he would fit. More than a 7th round. why even bother.

Only two or three 7th rounders become NHL regulars are year. Giving up a 7th rounder for an RFA with NHL experience is a steal.

Absolute robbery by Poile. I don't really see the point for Buffalo to get a 7th for a guy who had 27 points last year.....and aren't they adding?....weird. Fleece by Nashville, Asplund is a great underrated player.

With adding of Greenway and Stillman it was more a matter of time until Asplund was going to loose the rosterspot (then Dahlin and/or Tuch is back). So instead of loosing him on waivers they got a 7th round draft pick.

On this trade I see Nashville win. If you combine Greenways trade with Asplunds trade, Buffalo paid Asplund+2and+5th for Greenway and a 7th. Greenway add things that Buffalo need, but the price was high. A 2nd and a 5th for Greenway is OK/fair but Buffalo knew they lost Asplund at the same time.

I guess Buffalo tried to get Asplund in the deal to Minnesota, but by adding Klingberg and Sundqvist it was one to many swedes in the roster... I guess Minnesota did not have a need for Asplund.

This return on Asplund is pitiful.

Nashville wins the trade.

"The 23-man roster limit is in place from the conclusion of the preseason until 12:01 am on the day of the NHL's Trade Deadline.
After that teams are allowed to have an unlimited active roster at the NHL level, provided players are signed to one of their 50 contract slots."

There was absolutely no need to trade Rasmus.

Thanks for the info Gretzkyghost. But roster size or not, Asplund was not in the position to get icetime.

Basicly Buffalo tried to be decent and give Asplund a chance to play in NHL and at the same time get something more then future consideration.

With the prospect pool Buffalo have, Asplund is not expected get some icetime next year and if they lost the chance of a wild card sport in the last game, be icetime will be given some AHL prospect and if they are still in the run Asplund will not get a spot even if 2-3 forwards are injured. It is hard to say if it tells more about Buffalos depth on forwards or Asplunds season.

I feel like I should update this. Asplund currently has 0 points in 17 games with Nashville. Buffalo wins trade.
