Massive offseason changes

Description
If we lose in first round again we either need to rebuild or make massive changes to the roster. Cannot run it back again with same GM and same strategy. I'd prefer to rebuild if were out in first round again, think it would be very tough to overhaul the roster only for one more year of contending. But if we were to try and go for it one more time, think it would have to be something drastic like this. Trying to address our weaknesses (lack of speed, grit, youth, and lack of mobility on D)

Brother you have to understand that we are not going to rebuild no matter what happens. This team wants a cup. Hextall said were going for the cup. That's not gonna change when Crosby, Malkin, and Letang are all still here. He resigned them because were contending for a cup. We arent rebuilding for another 2 or 3 years or whenever Sid retires

You'll need a lot of guys to take team friendly deals so that you can go big in FA. You're 2-3 more runs at the cup before you go the way of Chicago and become the leagues dumping ground for a few seasons to try and build back up picks. While I'd hold onto the picks as best you can, use the prospects that are close to NHL ready, you don't have time for them to develop on the roster.

I think Petry would be worth a decent haul, dont need to give up picks to take him

Well first off I highly doubt Hextall is GM next year. Every team wants a cup, but at some point its not realistic. I dont think we will rebuild this offseason no matter what, but next offseason? Summer of 2024? Definitely is on the table. Ideally we contend for 2-3 more years, but it's just not realistic. What if we miss playoffs next year and the decline is very apparent? I think rebuild at end of 2024 season is possible. End of 2025 season I'd say it's way more likely than not. And what I think we should do versus what management will do are 2 different stories. I really have no clue what FSG or a new GM they bring in are thinking. Some point in the near future, I think next year, we will fall out of contention and might not have much of a choice.

Your right, which is why I think just going for the rebuild might be the best bet.

Why would the Wild want Petry? Answer: they don’t!

I was making the point of go for it, but Hextall has to convince the team to be like Boston, no one takes the big payday, it's one of the oldest rosters out there, they're here for one reason, to get a cup. Because the prospect system is already threadbare, might as well burn what's left, those guys will be closing in on 30 before the cup window opens again if you start the rebuild now. You'll also have to trade Crosby and Co, they won't stomach a rebuild.

Kinda pleased we got McGinn off your hands, I know he's overpayed, but that won't matter to us during the length of his contract. I'm looking forward to the Ducks having a mean as hell bottom 6.
