4 first rounders? He’s good but he’s not 97.

He is a top 10 center in this league. Arguably top 5 this season. McDavid would cost 10+ firsts

Horvat, a lower end 1C, got roughly the same return as Hronek, a 2RD. With that in mind, how does Pettersson (24 year old high end 1C)have more value than Seider (21year old high end 1RD)?

I don't think this would happen but Gretzky didn't even cost that

Horvat was and is a 2C, a good 2C, but never a 1C.
Pettersson is a top line, high end centre, one of the top 10 best players in the league arguably
Horvat and a 2nd for Hronek (Top 4 RD top pair upside), Beauviller (top 6 player), Raty (slated to be a first rounder and had a great D+1 season), and a 4th
Pettersson for Seider (top pair defender), Cossa (Middling goalie prospect but still would work well under clarke), Kasper (top 6 calibre centre)

That is a more than reasonable deal for Pettersson

Yeah but there was $15M in cash and that was in 1988 and that translates to about $38M today. If I remember correctly Peter Pocklington the Oliers owner 1988 was close to bankruptcy.

For EP, I think DET would have to part with Seider+Kasper to at least satisfy Vancouver fan base (which is all we are really doing on ACGM).

If players like Chiarot, Foligno, Savard, and Jeannot can get 1st ++++, then McDavid could probably get 10. This is a different time. Trades are inflated

Trades are nothing more than what two GMs are willing to sell to each other. Chychrun was tossed to Ottawa on the cheap while Tanner Jeannot was one of the biggest overpays we’ve ever seen. It’s all dependent on each individual team’s needs and wants. There is no such thing as a market for players. What Chiarot got compared to what Chychrun got is irrelevant.

So, I meant to respond some time ago, but life gets busy and things fall to the wayside. I'm not so much disagreeing with your assessments of Horvat and Hronek, moreso Cossa and Seider.
Thing to keep in mind, Demko (like most goalies) didn't leave college/juniors until around 23. Cossa is playing pro hockey at 20, so there's that. Also worth noting, the Oil Kings were not doing him any favors development-wise, and he was essentially leaning on his freak athletic ability more than any sort of technique. Once he got to the AHL, it didn't go well. Down in the ECHL, he got time to rework his fundamentals and was one of the best goalies in that league by year's end. Probably going to be vying for an AHL spot next season. He still has a lot of potential, and I don't think it's fair to call him middling.
And as far as Seider, his sophomore slump (aka 21 years old while spending 40% of his season carrying around a boat anchor known as Ben Chiarot) still resulted in a 42 point, defensively excellent, playing in all situations season Considering that defensemen seem to hit their breakout season around 23/24 (Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek taking huge steps this year, for example), we haven't seen the best version of Seider yet. He legitimately could be one of the 5 best RHD in the league in a few years. Considering him as just a 1st round pick/good prospect just seems insane to me.

Minor rant over. Regardless, I don't think there's a trade here that makes sense for both teams, so this whole thing is probably moot.
