Description

Rielly gets to be offensive as he likes, but being on a line with Nylander makes the defensive abilities he does have (Ya, he might not be a great 1LD, but he'd be one of the better defensive LWs) helps Nylander push his offense the way he likes and helps with Tavares slower speed.

Also would like to see him get some shifts swapped out with Bunting at 2LW.

Then you can bring him back to LD for PP1 with Matthews on his right.

Also, I know Kerfoot at PP2 LD looks weird and might be bad, I just think it could maybe work (He did play that one game at LD when everyone was injured lol) You use Lily as more of the point shot on the PP and Kerfoot as the passer moving the puck around from the blue line with O'Reilly and Bunting in front of the net and Marner flying around setting up plays.

On the D, pair Brodie on the left with Lily. Two smart defensive players. Lily gained a lot playing with Gio and I feel like he would excel playing with Brodie on his side now.

McCabe - Schenn is the big shutdown physical pairing.

Gio - Holl also has the size to them and Holl plays his best with Gio. They get paired against some of the easier matchups.

On the 4th line I'd like to see some games with Acciari getting the C slot. I know Kampf has been great defensively for the leafs this year, but Noel has an even better faceoff win percentage and seems to drive the play a little better then Kampf with an offensive push. Moving Kampf to the LW may let him focus more on the defensive side of his play and not need to run the line. If the faceoff is on the left side, put Kampf in.

I'd also like to see some games with McMann on the 4th line over Kerfoot once hes back from injury. He's been doing amazing in the AHL since his few games with the leafs this year.

That's not how hockey works though. Each position has a completely different play style/skill set. Just because he's an offensive defenceman doesn't mean he'll thrive in an offensive position. Rielly is most effective a generating offense through his outlet passes and joining the rush, which would both be taken away if he were to play LW.
