Backlund and Zadorov make no sense for Montreal and it makes more sense for Calgary to trade them as rentals elsewhere. We aren't in the market for expiring contracts unless it's using leftover cap space for dump scenarios.
This is Anderson and Evans for Wolf and a 2nd.
I'm not getting into Anderson's value again, but even IF Calgary was willing, Montreal isn't making that trade.
From Calgary's perspective, you simply do not trade a goalie you believe in. No goaltender drafted outside of the 1st round is going to return enough value to convince you otherwise, and no team is going to overpay to that extent for one. We wouldn't have traded Primeau when he was highly touted and nobody would have offered more than maybe a 3rd round pick anyway, because goalies are too much of a risk to warrant such a move.
Once that goaltender has enough of an NHL track record, only then do they garner sufficient trade value to even consider a trade and that's assuming the other team has more than one capable starter and can afford to part with one (or can't afford to keep both).
We aren't quite that desperate yet. There are always UFA options, Dobes has some promise, Hrabal might be an option if he slips to the 2nd round (or we trade down/acquire another 1st), only THEN do we need to worry about a trade.
