Description
With all the rumors of trading Staal to Dallas for a Goalie to buyout, this make much more sense and is more likely a move he will accept. No need to blow things up, already have a great young forward group and Nash $$ scheduled to come off books. Now the D is much younger and Allaire gets another goalie project.

Rumors might not be best word. Maybe lots of wishcasting from NYR blog/beat writers, but Dal needs to unload a G or 2 and Rangers would much rather the shorter buyout. Saw some mention of Staal for Niemi & Lehtonen, which would be a big 2 year hit... But Carolina is in same situation plus they are not even a cap floor team yet. So they can easily take on Staal to unload Ward or Lack and maybe get an asset in return and he would clearly go play with his Bro.

All these Staal seem to wishful thinking by Rangers fans. 5.7m X 4 years can be spend better elsewhere by Canes.

Sure. But the foundation is there for that type of deal. Carolina is not a top of the Cap team. They have no vet Dmen at all on roster, have long relationship with Staal's etc. Value wise sure they can spend 5.7m better ways. But this doesn't hurt their ability to do that. And they get rid of a goalie problem AND pick up a good asset. Make it a 2nd round pick and I think Rangers do the deal in a second.

Canes don't need Staal and his garbage contract. We already have Slavin and Hanifin on left side and Fleury coming up.
There is much cheaper ways to get vet presence to team.

No body wants your two garbage goalies either, but we know Canes are too cheap to buy them out... this solves that issue. **** send both Lack and Ward for Staal and a 4th and Rangers just buy them both out.
