Detroit passes, Zero interest in Tyler Myers.

And Gavrikov and Mayfield are underpaid by at least $1,000,000 each.

And with that state of the Canucks, Canucks look they have to pay a premium for any UFA to sign.

There is cap space left for more. Term is the key. It’s only about type of players for need.

Sadly, that I can’t argue. A competent GM wouldn’t make this trade for the Pens in a million years. Though I must say you have a lot of nerve being that your organization is the 2nd biggest laughing stock in the league, only behind Arizona.

Myers is RD. Detroit has none. He is big. He can fill a hole for a year. Maybe he rebounds to his pre Canucks days and becomes a valuable bottom 4 guy that can be resigned. Next year will be a little better for Detroit, but I'm not sure they are a playoff team.

Maybe but there's still no reason we should have to give up any picks in this trade.

2 middle 4ths for a later 3rd isn't exactly bad. Probably slightly better than the 4ths, which are total crapshoot. A 3rd can sometimes get you a guy who slipped from 2nd, or guy you don't think others know enough about.

Doesn't matter. Bonus or no, we're doing them a favor by eating a massive cap hit. They've tried to trade him and found no takers. They are not in a bargaining position. I wouldn't give them anything in return.

Fine, make it a 4th and 7th? Myers isn't useless, he is a victim of misuse, like Jonathan Ericsson; stop expecting him to be a top 4 when he is a bottom 4 and he will be fine.

I really should have gone Brad Stuart on this one when he arrived in Detroit...right partner, right deployments, and became a great 2nd pair D despite his lofty expectations before.

Take out at least one fourth but it would be better served as a fifth or sixth. Two fourths can likely get that third straight up. It's helping too much, take away the retention as it deserves no purpose and make it a later pick I think is fair.

The problem is the offseason. There are going to be a few teams that are cap floor, a few teams wanting to be at the floor but also wanting to get assets for nothing. Worst case next year, Myers is a deadline trade for a 3rd or something. In the offseason, this is a bidding war, albeit a low spenders one. 4th round picks have little value to a team that is coming out of a rebuild because of roster limits; Detroit does better in a 2 for 1 on a pick so they can sign an extra prospect they already drafted but think he needs another year.

I think only Chicago and Anaheim will need to take on contracts to hit cap floor, Arizona has alot of ltir guys right now they don't him. I could see a deal with one fourth but not both. I'm not totally opposed to it though, would just rather get better value.

I'm all for getting better value. With a year left on his deal, retention, no out of pocket for owners, and TDL trade possibility, I just think there is value to Myers.

I guess it depends if it's before or after the bonus is paid as well. Considering this has 2023 picks it would be before the bonus is paid.

So far you’re the only one seeing next season the value not the now or the old lame excuses.

Maybe I am the dummy! My take is 2 4ths for a 3rd isn't bad, especially when the 4ths are later. Has Myers gone on waivers? If he hasn't, that indicates there is at least SOME value to current GMs, otherwise the dump would have happened already. There isn't a NMC, so if he was garbage, he'd be in the AHL. He has value, even as depth.

Seriously if Yzerman wanted to fill the spot vacated by Hronek with Myers don't you think he would've been part of the trade. No matter what you think of Yzerman as a GM there is one thing you can't deny he is extremely meticulous. Adding Myers to that trade adds about $1.5M to this season's cap hardly worth waiting until the offseason to pull the trigger. It's much more likely they add some one like Klingberg.
