    idk as a leafs fan i'd probably take that, not only makes the team deeper but also gives us a big draft capital to spend and more salary room to play with

    i could see something like cooley + schmaltz + crouse + 1st. leafs wouldn't accept anything that doesn't help immediately as well as in the future, no chance we want to rebuild

    Kings aren't giving up three good regulars (and more) for their Cup run next year for one year of Matthews. Now they may make a trade at TDL for Matthews but the cost won't be nearly that much.

    it's not a rental obviously if he goes to la it's implied he'd sign a deal. he has a nmc as of july 1 so he picks the team he wants to go to

    It makes no sense for the Kings to give up anything of value for Matthews. He's going to sign wherever he wants to play as a UFA. If that's in LA, then the Kings can sign him in the summer without giving up any assets. If it's not, then there's no reason to give up anything of value for him.

    Well it is a rental obviously. His NMC doesn't mean that much. A poor team isn't going to trade for him and give up assets. Matthews would love a trade to LA, as he could get eight years on his new contract, and IMO is his preferred destination for his next eight years.

    Forget any trade to Arizona, does anyone really believe Matthews wants to play in the worse NHL market?

    I agree with you. The only trade I could see if the Leafs "give up" on next season coming TDL in February 2024. Then a trade to LA makes more sense as the Kings could go on a legit Cup run with Matthews and Kopitar as Matthews cap hit won't be as onerous. Then Matthews can sign for eight years in LA (Koptitar's contact expires). IMO Matthews is going to be a King as a UFA.
