A point worth noting: This past season, the Canadiens scored 223 goals as a team. This isn't too far below the league average of 227, but, after Max Pacioretty's 35 goals, the next best goal scorer was Paul Byron, at 22. Nobody else had more than 20. Jonathan Drouin scored more goals than everybody on the Canadiens' roster except for Pacioretty and Byron. So I can see why the Canadiens would be interested in Drouin.

That being said, this trade suuuuuuure solved a few of Steve Yzerman's problems. One less RFA to have to shell out the big bucks for, one more protection spot that just opened up, and a strong defensive prospect that could make the Lightning's roster out of training camp next year and aid immensely on the left side of the defensive corps. Bergevin, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have solved his most pressing issues with this trade. Still need to find a more robust top-line center than Phillip Danault, still need an eventual replacement on the top defensive pairing for Andrei Markov.

Chucky for Duchense now? Can't imagine they'd keep Galchenyuk at this point

They most certainly need Galchenyuk, he's their center. Maybe Gallagher or Pacioretty gets traded now, but I doubt. Probably Byron.

He's their "best" center, but is he the right center? He has struggled since coming in the league to be a consistent player

Yes but he's still young. Give him time.

Pretty good trade for both teams Montreal gets a scoring winger with great puck skills and Tampa gets a great defensive prospect with great defensive physical and offensive capability

I'm so surprised the trade favoured Montreal

I think drouin still has 70 point potential and there is a chance sergachev is a bust like I would say like 1/5

Tampa Bay hit a huge home run on this one. Drouin is a well known head case. Who knows if he'll even play? The sixth rounder is nothing. Sergachev is a blue chip prospect and the 2018 2nd rounder should also have some value.

Who knows if hell even play? He played all year for Tampa. He's a top six forward. Learn before you speak.

Of course he played last year. Welcome to the internet, kid. He played very poorly last year. He whined about his ice time. He is a middle six forward at best. He will be expected to be the top producing player. When he falls short what will he do? Whine about his team mates? NHL teams must be hammering down Bergevin's door after getting hosed on this trade and the Subban fiasco.

Drouin will get good ice time in MTL, he's from Quebec so I quote "a dream come true" were is words, he's being paid good money. That fact you think Drouin won't play is ridiculous.

This habs fan is ecstatic. Can't wait to watch Drouin wearing our colours next year. Exactly the type of offensive force we needed.

Sergachev had better offense this year.....as a rookie defenseman.....

Because he's on one of the best teams in the league playing sheltered minutes, not playing your not natural position, which happens to be one of the hardest in hockey playing against other team's top-lines every night on a bad team. The jury's still out on this trade.

YUP!

Every single 19 year old rookie defensemen (who plays on a good team) should be expected to get 10 goals + 40 points + Calder Trophy votes.

Because it's just that easy on a good team....meanwhile took Drouin 3 NHL seasons to break 40 points at 22 years old (on the Tampa Bay Lightning....same team brotha).

But we should cut Drouin some slack....no 23 year old with 4 years of NHL experience should be expected to play the position they grew up playing without being a -28.

YUP .... GREAT TRADE !

The Montreal jury is still out on this one. While anything can still happen, the general consensus is that Montreal lost this deal badly.

Well, there is a little glimpse of hope for Montreal, Drouin finished the season pretty well for Montreal, AS A CENTER. He had 13 points in his 14 last games. He progressed
While Sergachev had 23 points in his first 35 games. And had 17 points in his last 44 games of the regular season. He regressed a bit.
The question lies on whether or not the two players will remain consistent. It was great for Tampa, because they got a puck moving defensman who can generate a ton of offense. But he had the easy shifts. And Jonathan Drouin got the harder shifts. Tampa will have won this trade if they can milk a consistent 40 point scorer who can play at least 17 minutes a night out of Sergachev. One good season doesn't guarantee you anything.

They're having fairly comparable (even-value) seasons this year.

- Sergachev is on pace for for 35 points but it prone to occasional defensive lapses.
- Drouin is on pace for 55 point but is prone to occasional defensive lapses and low-effort games.

But the difference is:

Sergachev is a 20 year old defense (most of his peers haven't made the NHL yet) while Drouin is a 23 year old winger (most of his peers are entering their prime).

I think Tampa is still winning.

Tampa still wins this due to the age + potential factor. But it's not as bad for Montreal as it seemed at the time. Remember the plan was to turn Drouin into a 1C, which he had no business being; but now that they have Domi, they can put Drouin back on the wing where he belongs. Sergachev is still playing on the 3rd pair, but isn't nearly as sheltered as he was last season and is still driving play at an effective rate.

So it's not nearly as lopsided as it was pictured at the time, but I still give the edge to Tampa.

Sergachev is constantly a healthy scratch because his defensive game is so awful. They can't even shelter him. His production is down from last year and his defense has been getting worse if anything. I think Montreal knew what they were doing. Considering Montreal is a defensive first team, Sergachev wouldn't have a chance there. Chances are, he would be playing for Laval right now.

All of his advanced numbers are down from last year, sure his zone starts are more evened out now, but he isn't anything more than a 3rd liner that's Elite on the Powerplay.

Lol the reason he's a healthy scratch is because Tampa is rotating all defenseman not named Victor Hedman or Ryan McDonagh.
